That is terrible for the leafs. A first is moved with Subban in any deal, especially one where Toronto is expected to take on even more salary.

laugh laugh No freaking way you're getting Ryan Pulock for Johnny Boychuk not even remotely realistic. And the most it would cost a 2021 2nd round pick+2022 2nd round pick along with Keifer Bellows to move Boychuk's contract.

I retained some of the salary, so its a 3rd.
Could add a 1st, but no retained salary.

Two 2nds for Pulock? Done. Send paper work ASAP.
Pass on Bellows for Boychuk.

More like 2 2nds to move Boychuck's contract, Ryan Pulock would cost vastly more then that.

We really don't need Subban now in any way so I just don't see it happening unless it was something we couldn't pass up.
Subban at 2.75M retained and a second for Holl kerfoot and a non roster dman like Kral or something

No no no.
The cost is two young, inexpensive d-men in Holl and Dermott. Ty Smith and 2021 NJD 1st are not in this deal.
There are two deals that go hand in hand...

TOR gives: Holl, Dermott
TOR gets: Subban, $4 million, 3rd round pick, 7th round pick

NYI gives: Pulock
NYI gets: Boychuck off their books, Holl, Dermott, their 2nd round pick (from Andy Greene trade)

NJD gives: Subban, $4 million to TOR, 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick, 7th round pick, $12 million to NYI
NJD gets: Pulock

The net of these deals is NJD swallowing $8 million over next two years ($16 million total) in dead cap space plus three picks for Pulock.

Lou has been reportedly been shopping that (the two Colorado picks) and hasn't found any takers.
So to NYI, there were hoping the net to them was Toews + Boychuk for nothing.
Now its Pulock + Boychuck for two young d-men and a pick.

Toronto taking on a 7M player for two years in a stagnant cap world who isn't at least All Star level... not sure how that's possible, very counter intuitive

Some fans have no appreciation for salary retention.

Subban at $9 million = worth 5 Dubasbucks
Subban at $7 million = worth 5 Dubasbucks
Subban at $4.5 million = worth 5 Dubasbucks

So its a pointless conversation, unfortunately

Not saying it holds water but if it was one of Sandin/Liljegren included in both deals and Subban retained at 50% I reckon it'd all be more conceivable

What are you even saying here exactly and why does it seem condescending on the surface? Very confused overall. Why does this always happen on this site.

Was written to be such. My point is ..when making trades on ACGM with a guy like Subban, it does matter how much NJD dials up or down the salary retention, the change in return isn't commensurate.

If Subban at 50% is included, NJD keeps Sandin/Liljegren.
Otherwise, they would be eating $21 million over two years for Pulock.

It is a bad proposal from you. The Isles do not need to move Boychuk, they want too. The Isles can simply bury him in the AHL with Ladd and re-sign Pulock and Barzal. If the Isles ended up needing to move Boychuk they would attach a 1st, or better prospect like Holmstrom to him, but in no world does Pulock get attached.

Your description of what the Isles would get is way off. Holl is not young, he is a 28 year old 3rd pairing D-Man and Dermott is a 2nd pairing D-Man (3rd Pair on the Isles) at best.

You are getting two defenceman who are or will be as good as Subban in the near future. This whole concept is utterly insane.

You get a 5th for Subban at his contract retained at 50% not a blue chip prospect. I still think Subban had some legs left but it still costs you.

If Leafs were going to get a 7 mill RHD they would've payed the extra 1.8 and get Pietrangelo.
