I think that's a pretty good offer for someone they will loose for nothing when he will go UFA

You do realize Laine is a 22 year old RFA, right? That’s 3 years of team control remaining, 2 after his current deal expires. Danault on the other hand is a 1 year rental.

lol, there's nothing better than someone snarkily writing "you do realize"...when not showing themselves to be astute enough to "realize" that you had already clarified their confusion.

There's definitely a trade to be had here. If ever there was a time to start fresh, 2020 is it.

Laine deal makes zero sense for the Habs. You re trading a centerman for a winger. Habs already have too many wingers and too few centerman. And how are you going to replace Danault, There is no one in the prospect pool remotely close to taking his place. With the team they have now, Habs need Danault a lot more than they need Laine.

"Laine deal makes zero sense for the Habs" no.
"You re trading a centerman for a winger" yes.
"Habs already have too many wingers and too few centerman" yes.
"And how are you going to replace Danault" one easy example, sign Haula.
"There is no one in the prospect pool remotely close to taking his place" you don't replace a player like Danault's role with a prospect.
"With the team they have now, Habs need Danault a lot more than they need Laine" Yes for this year, but keeping a player like Danault blows up your team's salary structure (specifically at center) with KK and Suzuki needing contracts the next two years.

more than one thing can be true.
