I can't see Foote and Cernak being moved. Rutta and Schenn full time isn't sustainable.

Hence they play with top level D pairs.

I'm personally not a fan of moving those assets, but considering how dire situation they're in it might be the only plausible course of action. Probably not though.

realistically, Hedman and Sergachev are the top pair, and play 25 minutes a night. McDonagh and Severson play 22 minutes. Tinordi and Rutta average 14 or 15 minutes, with occasional overtimes. Fatigue becomes an issue. Someone gets hurt. The team barely squeaks into the playoffs. The situation becomes the opposite of the kind of team that had Coburn and Shattenkirk on the third pair.... until the deadline, when they find a way to build it right back up again.

Yeah but playing Rutta 20+ minutes a night isn't sustainable. He was scratched a lot of the postseason. Sergachev, Shattenkirk, and Cernak ate a lot of those minutes.

Definitely more realistic, but getting New Jersey to take on all that salary isn't likely either. They're going to have to find another way.

NJD trades Severson (eating $6.25 million) swallows JVR salary ($21 million), all for Cal Foote? I don't find this return to be realistic at all.

I mean you're kind of ignoring the fact there's a 1st+2nd involved as well.

Also JVR's part retained.

It says Severson is retained.

Cannot have retained players on both sides of one trade.

OK, gotcha.
I don't think retaining 1/2 of Severson for 3-years sounds like its something NJD will do.
A JVR for d-man deal would be for Subban.

Subban is like both worse player and contract...

Possible, I brought up Tyler Johnson and Cernak to PHI for picks and mid/high level prospects (LW Ratcliffe and RD Wylie), as it removes at least 7mil in cap from TB, and they're going to have to give up a good asset, Cernak, to move salary.

If Patrick is not ready, Johnson is 3C in Philly, PHI would like his speed and adaptability (LW/C/RW), and Cernak at his age and big stay at home type, would fit perfectly with the similar aged, puck rushing PHI youngsters on D: provorov, myers, sanheim.

PHI could then move Ghost or JVR at a complete loss and have solidified the team.

Coburn would be a nice 7th dman option

this just isnt feasible. You can have Sevo or Butcher 50% retained + 1st + Boqvist for sergachev and thats they only way the devils are going eat into their cap by 9mm to help the lighting.
