I think you could get more for johnny. I don't know why you'd be trading one of your top players for patrick, plus philly would be over cap after this i'm pretty sure, they'd need to send some money back.

Cap was my only concern really. I definitely think that there is room to improve a Johnny deal but I also think that a lot of teams look at Gaudreau as a piece that they can live without, not going to be a huge market for Johnny with only 2 years remaining on a deal and not efficient in the playoffs. I think that Patrick is a good piece but the trade is really built around a young right shot D that exposes Tanev and Giordano in the expansion draft which hopefully opens up a world of cap for Calgary next off season with a lot of good UFA's on the market next season. Tkachuk and MAngiapane will also be looking for raises

Any trade that returns Phil Myers is a big win for Calgary. Dont think Philly trades him tho

Yes and no, i think on the right team johnny could produce in playoffs, i also tink a lot of it is monahan not producing. Johnny still gets elite numbers during regular season to get the team a top spot in playoffs which is huge. Hypothetically i think you'd still be able to get Myers in the deal and upgrade patrick to say frost, but i think if you're sending 10 mil over to philly you're going to have to take some cap back.

I think both teams decline this. Philly for Cap reasons and because they love Myers. Calgary because Patrick is way too much of a risk at this point in time.

This. Calgary could probably get more for that package, and Patrick and Myers are probably the two biggest "more value to us than to anybody else" pieces on the roster

No sir NTC vs NMC, Lucic is the only mandatory protect and there is a pretty good idea that he will waive it after the deal to Calgary. Rumours have been all over that the deal doesn't go through if there isn't a hadn shake deal between Treliving and Lucic about waiving for Seattle.

Markstrom is a mandatory protect too, he was given a full NMC.

But you are right on Looch and it was Treliving's own words that made people suspect there is a handshake agreement. The day of or after the trade he was directly asked about the expansion draft implications and said something to the effect of -- I'm not worried (about expansion), but I will not discuss negotiations I've had with players.

Chuck Fletcher stated publicly that he believes that the Flyers are deeper than almost any team at the wing and would not be adding a winger without making other changes to the position.... so can we finally kill Gaudreau coming to the Flyers because the Flames want to move him and he's from NJ.

Also, Myers is our only RHD. No interest in making our depth chart worse in positions of weakness to add a luxury item at a position of strength.

Personally, I don't think so... he's great but a big contract, getting old and slowing down. I think GMBT takes a gamble and exposes him but Seattle won't take on a contract that big for such short term.

Don't think that's quite how he said it, he basically stated he wouldn't add a winger unless it was an obvious upgrade, which Gaudreau would be. I do think however that the more likely avenue would be acquiring him next season, as I think by that point we will look to unload a couple of contracts anyways and one or both of JVR and Jake will be out
