I wouldnt do it if Im Chicago. Lose your best D prospect, and your captain, for a goal scorer who cant play defense

If you want to get real weird... Toews for Laine one for one maybe?

Is there a need for Laine in Chicago? If DeBrincat even remotely bounces back then they have him and Kubalik as excellent snipers

Personally I think Toews would love to play in Peg since it’s his home and I think he’d waive, but I don’t want Laine. I’d want two picks and two A-B prospects.

There’s no worry lol. He’s not against signing long term, he just doesn’t want to in Winnipeg.

I think CHI easily says no.

It just wouldnt work. No way Peg trades Laine for the tail end of Toews career and nothing else.

If im Winnipeg, yeah Id try to get Boqvist, but if not, im looking at Strome/Dach

Too much of an ask for Toews at this point in his career IMO, especially with his cap hit. If you went the pick/prospect route I think a 1st and 1 A - B+ prospect is the best you'd get, cap hit and age being reasons.

Toews and strome for Laine? I'd do that as a hawks fan but it would leave a huge hole down the middle for the hawks

Chicago rebuilding, Peg taking a run at a cup while wheeler still producing, My only thoughts there. I don't know if Laine to CHI would be compatible, just like discussing new ideas.

Rebuilding team can retain salary though. Get toews cap hit down to about 7 mil

Just thought Toews in Peg for a couple years while he's still got some game would be cool to see.

I don't know why Hawks would ever consider that.

WPG adds to a Laine for Toews straight up deal.

Toews on a 10.5 cap hit, 32 years old, 33 by playoff time, He will start declining very soon, Laine should get better. Trading 3 years of a declining Toews for potentially 9+ years of what should be a Laine on the upswing.... Guy could, emphasis COULD, become a consisten 40-50 goal guy, has the potential.

We already have Debrincat and Kubalik. We don't need another goal scoring winger.

Our problem is on defense so for that reason I think Chicago passes.

Oh I would absolutely hate it! But in this scenario I'm assuming he requested a trade. So getting Laine is enough to make me feel a little better about it

You'd basically be betting on Laine becoming Ovechkin.
Toews brings more than points.
Toews also has more points (over the 4 seasons they both have played).
Plays a more premium position.
Brings Selke-caliber defense.
Has won every competition he's played in (WJC, WC, Olympics, 3 cups).
Is very definition of 1c.
Has three years at $10.5 million. Probably another 3 good years on top of that.
Laine has one year at $6.7 million, then 8 years at $9-10 million.

Toews > Laine, for me. No question.

Couldn't disagree more but fair analysis, different side of seeing it. For me the 32 years old and 22 years old card trumps everything else. I'd take a bet on Laine becoming Ovechkin rather than watching Toews sail off into the sunset if I'm chicago, but that's just me. Toews will have a statue infront of that rink one day so maybe trading him isn't an option, but as far as just pure value for value is concerned I think it's a no brainer for the Hawks.

Don't think he does? I think Laine would've if the AAV was what he wanted but I think that ship has sailed, not sure this relationship is repairable at this point.
Not a matter of if he gets traded, just a matter of when.

I think this is all pretty crazy, a guy who scores goals falls in your lap and they're gonna trade him and Roslovic while Wheeler is well on the other side of 30 when the prospect pool is almost empty, really hope Appleton has another gear and Vesalainen figures it out soon I guess, and for awhile I did think this organization knew what it was doing, really is the Ottawa Senators of western Canada... 😂
