Yes he can. Value wise I think this is more than fair for Compher but I don't think the Avs are looking for picks and unproven young players. Avs are looking to win now so I think they would only move him if they could get an upgrade at 3C

Oh so those scouting reports I just read on his excellent two-way game, those people know nothing, Papi Shark has all the facts.

I know he isn't amazing but I like his game from what I have gleaned from various articles. We could use a strong 2-way C. I know avs don't need picks and prospects but this could give you more room to acquire someone else..Just a thought

I didnt say he was bad. This is just too much for him. At 3.5 mil thats an overpayment for his skills and he isnt anything more than a third line player (albeit a good one) so no reason to throw away future assets.

Here is the crazy thing about him. He will have a game where he looks like one of the best players on the ice (like game 6 vs the Sharks) and then he is just solid for 10 games. Imo he excels when he is paired with skilled guys with speed. Solid pk sometimes awesome pk guy. Can play up on the 2nd line in a pinch but is a solid 3rd liner. Probably better as a wing especially if you can pair him with a fairly skilled C who has speed too. And will go to the dirty places on the ice.

I don't mind Compher, and yes he could step in and play 3C very well, but I'm just not super high on him if this is what we have to pay which is likely. It's probably fair, but I'm not sure we should be trading away too many picks at this point. If he was getting paid under 3 or 2.5M, I'd probably be be much more intrigued.

Basically my thoughts too. If the Sharks are going to part with picks/prospects I'd rather it be more impactful players like Tierney/Armia. It doesn't really make sense since the drop-off between Compher and potential for guys like Gregor/Handemark, at least I don't think, is all that far off to justify the cap hit and deal.
