Wild don't have the cap space to take on Wheeler. Guerin has made a lot of moves to acquire players on expiring deals to free up cap space moving forward, doubt he'd want to acquire an expensive player like Wheeler anyhow.

Agreed. I think the Wild would be the hardest to convince. But couple of Guerin's signings are opposite of what you said. Spurgeon signs 7 year deal at $7.5M at age 29 and Talbot signs 3 year at $3.6M at age 33.
Why trade Kunin for Bonino also? Not sure why he did this?

Also there is absolutely no reason why the jets would want to give up their captain.

They didn't trade Kunin for Bonino. They traded Kunin for a 2nd and 3rd round pick along with a center on an expiring contract they can flip at the deadline.

The Maurice / Wheeler bromance has to end.

Toews would be at least equal to Wheeler in terms of captaincy if not better.

Point is that Kunin was a 1st rounder that was coming around with a decent year last year with 15 goals and 31 points. What exactly do you get for Bonino at trade deadline?

Edited: TSN has the trade as Kunin and a 3rd for Bonino, a 2nd, and a 4th. Threw a curve ball at me. The trade isn't as bad with the right picks.

I think ultimately the trade will be judged by how Khusnutdinov does because that seems to be what Guerin was after. As for Bonino, idk, maybe another 2nd? Maybe a late 1st from some idiot GM with picks and prospects to spare? Again, it won't really matter if Khusnutdinov develops into a top 6 center and we won't know that for a few years. After years of watching Minnesota GMs hold on to guys past the point they should have seen they weren't going to be the player they thought they would be, it's great to see a GM willing to take a risk. It's not like the Wild were winning a Cup with Kunin next year anyhow.

Kunin is not a big loss. I liked his attitude and effort a lot, but his hockey skills are league-average at best. Khusnutdinov‘s ceiling is a LOT higher! Kunin was just another example of the Wild’s looooong history of playing it safe in the draft.

Ya, but why give him away for nothing? Well, not nothing, but we are talking about an elite player here. It doesn't have to end.

I don’t like that Wheeler contract for Minnesota. I’d be willing to give you Parise and 2nd for Wheeler. I don’t expect you to accept it, but that just shows you my opinion of that contract.

instead of Parise, would Rask work for Chicago as that would be the end destination. Or does WPG retain 2 mil on Wheeler and Chicago retain 2 mil on Toews. I know it is a wash for Wpg, benefits Minnesota, and costs Chicago but I think that is good return for Toews IF Chicago trades him.

If the bromance has to end then it should be Maurice headed out of town.
This bromance has made Wheeler into an elite RW

Had to pick Wheeler to move salary. Otherwise I would of shown Maurice the door.

Yeah Parise for Wheeler is about all I'd do. Wouldn't even add the 2nd. Parise's contract will be easier to ditch later when he's only making 4M total the last three years.

That's absolutely bonkers man!! Wheeler is twice the player Parise is, will be 37 when his contract ends. Sure Parise's actual salary and cap hit are less, but the value isnt even close
