With Stamkos

Created by: TMarch
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 21, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't think that trade will happen, but I've seen it posted a few times on the boards and wondered what it would look like lineup wise.

TBL gets 8.5mmx4 in salary cap relief, along with a 4th line C that's one of the best faceoff men in the league, and a high-ish pick (early 2nd, could conditional it to late 1st). 6.8mm to sign Cernak, Sergachev, and Cirelli (on top of remaining cap), which is probably still not enough, but significantly closer. Looking at Point/Cirelli/Gourde/Paquette/Coleman/Stephens as potential Cs.

DET gets a #1 C playing on its 2nd line (mainly because Larkin will be Captain, and I think that it 1st line/top pair status).

  1. Glendening, Luke
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Could play with the picks a little. Maybe make the 2nd conditional to be the highest pick DET has in the 2nd, or its top 20 protected.

As a Wings fan I am for it, but I would think Tampa Bay would take a 2nd unless coupled with high two prospects, like Zadina and Veleno to start. Even then I am not sure they would do that.

On top of that I highly doubt Stammer waves to come to Detroit, as he will lose money do to taxes and they are are from from being a cup challenger.

People on this site have no concept of how screwed TBL is right now, but GMs do.

In a normal world and if TB wasn’t in their current cap situation I’d agree with you. I’m not certain that you have an understanding of how much cap trouble TB is in. It will take a lopsided trade like this for TB to get their team under the salary cap. Cap space is it a premium at this point in the off season.

Actually it's not going to take a lopsided result because there's no deal to be made. Stamkos took 8.5M to stay in Tampa and he's not leaving.

This may sound crazy, but I wouldn't trade for Stamkos unless Tampa paid a lot. When he's on the ice, he's great, but he's been injury prone lately. A healthy season of Stamkos would push Detroit up a couple spots in the standings, which leads to worse draft picks. Having Stamkos would also greatly limit cap flexibility, which is something the Wings just got for the first time in years.

Considering that Tampa is massively screwed by the cap and pretty much the entire league has neither the cash nor the cap to make a big move, Detroit shouldn't do anything that remotely helps their division rival unless they get an absolutely amazing haul. Detroit isn't a Stamkos away from being good, so why bother moving closer to mediocrity instead of building organically through the draft?

If not Stamkos then someone else. TB is in a world of Cap hurt and they have to move someone and it’s most likely going to cost dearly.

Stamkos is a 95 point player. As badly of a cap situation that you think Tampa is in, they are trading you that.

Would you settle down, man. I am not lobbying for Stamkos, nor would I want him on the Wings. You're completely missing the point of my original comment and my follow-up comment. TB is gonna pay in order to get cap compliant. They are going to lose equity in whatever deal they make to do so.
