I've got my fingers crossed that Hoglander earns a spot on the roster and that Ferland is actually 100% healthy if he's going to play. Both would make a huge difference to the forward group.

Theres also a way to keep Jake and Rouss while being under the cap with no trade or buyout. We would need to waive one of Roussel, Sutter, or Beagle in addition to Sven and Louie. Then have Hawryluk or Hoglander and Chatfield or Rafferty as our 2 scratches. Or run a 21 man roster with only an extra dman.

There definitely is a way to keep them both, but I'm not sure it would be worth it. Moving Roussel would be getting ahead of our cap crunch next summer and Virtanen can be replaced by a full time MacEwan. Ferland sounds like he'll be healthy so he needs a spot, so he replaces Roussel. I don't think running a 21 man roster is a good idea. Also, I'm not convinced Hoglander is ready for the NHL yet. Another year in the SHL would not hurt him.

Im all for moving Roussel but not if it costs Virtanen. Agree Hoglander probably isnt ready and the team could benefit by not burning a year from his ELC. Ferland is just such a wildcard though I feel like you cant depend on him bouncing back. I think Jim should wait till the last minute through training camp to see if he can still do it.
