What a steal. Sure he was on a black hole RFA expiry.... but this is significantly cheaper than i was expecting

What a great deal. He can potentially play in the top pairing (more likely top 4)and thrives on either side. Love this signing.

This is certainly lower than I was expecting. I have really liked watching his progress over the last few years; if that continues his cap hit will be considerably higher next year.

Potentially something like what the Penguins did with Pettersson a couple seasons ago.

QO type signing then an extension for more $. After a 2+ month delay, in September, Pettersson signed his QO of $874,175. Then in January he signed a 5yr $20,125,875 ($4,125,875 AAV) extension. Odd numbers right? Not if you combine the QO and the extension which then totaled a round $21,000,000.

It was a way to get around cap problems that first year. The Caps are currently 2 people shy of a normal roster, but $1M over the cap.
