If Broberg better than Jones in camp

Created by: Oilyboy
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 22, 2020
Published: Oct. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Unlikely - but he'll be playing big minutes until the season starts, while I don't think Jones is actively playing right now. Broberg's development may take off. If it does, this solve our MCD winger issue and the issue of possibly losing Jones in the ED anyway due to Klef potentially not meeting exceptions even though he is out all year (if Bettman pro-rates games played again like he did in the Neal shenanigans).

Have the space to PTO a guy like Koekkoek to camp and sign him cheap as well.

Replace the 3rd with a 2nd and I'd be very much inclined to accept... if Kreider or Laffy can be moved to RW, that is

Well, there has to be some area of tension in the trade wink but jokes aside, it would be an interesting basis for a trade if, as I say, Broberg shows really well. He has the talent, and Larsson is the right partner for Broberg.

The thing is that Buch is already a proven top sixer (a first line of Buch-97-JP would look awesome IMO) where as Jones is still just a number 5 at this point. To make up for this pretty big difference, a 3rd isn't enough, a 2nd would do fine tho, IMO

Could be fair for sure. Just depends how GM's value each player and the great cap hit on Jones in this flat cap world. Jones will be the secondary Dman on a 2nd pairing, or the best Dman on the 3rd pairing on both teams for 2 years at 850k. That has big value in the crunch we are in.

I know you don't work in the Oilers' organization, but why didn't you guys upgrade the G position with a Greiss/Holtby and why didn't you buy out Neal when it would've been cheap as hell to do so?

if Holtby/Greiss are signed, still not knowing Klefbom's ultimate situation, I think it would have been unlikely that Barrie is signed. So, ultimately, is it better to have Smith and Barrie at 5.25, or Holtby alone at 4.3? I don't like Smith, but I take the former each time. Any answer saying they could have made other moves to make it work requires making actual other moves, and moving Koskinen is not an answer - he is the best goalie out of all that are named here. So, with the situation Holland was in, it was the better move. Now, why didn't he sign aaron Dell at less than 1M instead of Smith? I have no damn clue. Probably something to due with Smith and Koski having a good relationship, and Smith being an important leader in the room...dubious reasoning though.

As for the Neal issue, I think it is the issue of already having like 6 mil in buyout/retention. Bad taste for the fanbase. He may produce 20-30 goals again, which is useful (albeit he does little else of great use). See if there is a deal to get Seattle to take him with other assets, and if not, maybe a buyout next summer after going through those motions and some of the other buyouts have worn off (I think Pouliot's ends next summer...)

Im pretty sure broberg has to play this entire season in sweden. Given that it started I don't think he can leave midway

No, he is loaned. I think he can block being forced to play in AHL, however. https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2020/08/edmonton-oilers-loan-philip-broberg-to-shl.html

Pass. Maybe for Jones and an unprotected 1st. Buchnevich is NYR's only remotely proven Top 6 RW

Well, in the current situation, of course. I'm talking if he comes to camp (which he should - he made the taxi squad in the summer camp), and outperforms Jones, then we can kill 2 birds with one stone (ED worries and MCD LW).

Your team just might be a bust pal. If Buf doesn't make the playoffs with Hall...what will Eichel say? In any case, we can't know if Buf is a bust as a team, or if Broberg at 19 will ever be a bust, unless we watch them play to prove where they are going.

1 playoff appearance in 13 years. Sit this one out champ. No, this year doesn't count, you lost to the 12 seed in the QUALIFYING round. I was joking about broberg btw

Enjoy keeping the delusion of being a cup contender next year. You rave about the forward group, I point out the gaping hole in goaltending and extremely suspect defense. McDavid can't do it all

Luckily he's got the reigning league MVP to help him.

No, but I'm fine with 15th ranked sv% Koskinen being the main guy. Average goaltending is fine with me behind the top two scorers in the league.
