I'd rather them give good players to smaller clubs than to NY.

Nah. Malkin, Letang, etc. is at least a 40 win team every season. Just likely no cups ultimately.

People are overblowing the "Crosby saved teh Pinquinz!" thing.

Burkle and Lemieux had already brought the team out of bankruptcy. The NHL was just coming off of a lockout and would've not let one of the original expansion teams get relocated. They would've been fine with or without Crosby.

Still wouldn’t be enough tho. Like before Crosby and Malkin, the organization had collapsed financially in 2005, and was on the verge of relocation.
