Boychuk, Ladd, Komarov are buried (ladd ltir tho?)

I like this because it saves just over 3M letting them keep their young elites and also ice a coherent squad

You might lose Pelech to re-sign the RFAs next season but with Aho & Dobson there it's not too bad at all

Wow, that’s brutal. What are they doing. Why don’t they buy out Ladd? Still 3 More years at 5.5M. Ouch. And even the 2 years of boychuk at 6M. Buy-outs are gonna have to be the option. Or retaining 50% of those contracts in trade. Or trading draft picks or assets to get a team to take them on. I mean, 2 more years of Komarov at 3M isn’t as bad..lol.

Wow, it got worse. I Just looked at their ages and the depth chart. Ladd at 35(3 more years till 38 at 5.5M), and a 4th line LW. And Boychuk 37(and 2 more years till 39 at 6M) as the 3rd pairing LHD. He has to be a liability being a big guy and 37. Has to be slowing way down. And Komarov at 34(2 more years till 36 at 3M) and a 3rd line RW. That’s rough.

Easily the ugliest cap situation in the league. Don't think burying them is the solution though. Only saves $1M cap space from each of them. Just give up some futures and move them to a cap floor team.

Buying them out has to save you a lot more than that. The Pens just bought out 4 years of Jack Johnson’s 3.5M contract and get a cap hit this year and next of 1.1M and then 2 years of 900k.

Buying them out has to save you a lot more than that. The Pens just bought out 5 years of Jack Johnson’s 5.5M contract and get a cap hit this year and next of 1.1M and then 3 years of 900k.

Boychuks buyout $5,166,667 $5,166,667 $416,667 $416,667
Ladds buyout $4,833,333 $4,833,333 $4,833,333 $333,333 $333,333 $333,333

You don't save anymore by buying them out. It makes more sense to just bury them and when their contracts done it's done and over with.

Ok, I got it. It’s 2/3 of a players salary if they are over 26. And you can spread that out over twice the remaining years left on the deal.( I was wondering why we have a cap hit for 6 more years of Jack Johnson and only owed him 3 years of 3.5M)

So Ladd would be 2/3 of 5.5M = 3.663M x3 = 10.989M over 6 years would be a cap hit of 1.83M for 6 years. Boychuk would be 2/3 of 6M =3.996M x2 year’s left =7.992M over 4 years is a 1.998M a year cap hit for 4 years. And Komarov would be 3M x 2/3 is 1.998M x 2 years left is 3.996M over 4 years is 999k a year cap hit.

That’s more than 1M a year savings my man.

Go look for yourself my man. You’re wrong. The cap-friendly program is wrong.

https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-faq

We owed J.Johnson 3 years of 3.5M contract. Now Its a 1.1M for 3 years and 900k for 3 years cap hit. Go look at the Pens team page. We didn’t owe him 6 more years..lol. We owed him 3.

I'm pretty sure when cap friendly programmed their own calculator they took in to consideration everything you just read on that page. I'm thinking it's your math that's wrong, but like a grown up I'm not going to throw a temper tantrum and start calling you names. So have a good day or don't.

Jack Johnson 3.5M owed over 3 years. 3.5M x2/3 =2.331M x 3 years is 6.993M over 6 years time = 1.165M. Exactly what it says on the pens team page. Keep doing it every year.

Go and look. 1.165M for 3 years and 900k over the last 3 years

We only owed him 3 years? Why is the cap hit spread over 6 years?

Read everything over and proved it by Jack Jaohnson’s contract, my math and what it says on your beloved cap friendly Pens team page.

Johnson's contract wasn't structured the same as Boychuks and Ladds there's no signing bonus.

Taken before he was bought out. It's exactly what's on the Penguins page right now. I'm done with this now take care bud.

Exactly what my math did 1.16M. Yep

Ohh sorry, mine says 1.165M, and theirs is 1.166M. I didn’t round up.

My point wasn't that your math was right. My point was that the calculator was right that pic I linked you was from the cap friendly calculator before they actually bought him out. So it wasn't wrong was it? You're math is wrong because you didn't factor in Boychuks and Ladds signing bonuses that they have coming. The contracts are structured differently than Johnsons.

Yes, both are correct. I see now that they are owed a signing bonus. Nowhere does it say they are still owed their singing bonuses? But it is right if the Islanders would have paid the signing bonus upfront instead of pro-rating it..lol

Andrew Ladd is still owed 9M on f-ing singing bonus. 3M/yr for 3 more years.

My math is 100% right(minus the signing bonuses, so 99% right).

You can't buy out signing bonus money, only the base salary.

For example, Andrew Ladd, who has a horrible contract structure, has three years left;
$3MM signing bonus, $1MM base salary, so that's 2/3 of the $1MM base salary, plus the $3MM, for a total of $4.667MM, and for three years

If the Islanders buyout Ladd, they still pay him $11MM of the $12MM owed, except, the $3MM signing bonus for this season was already paid, so it's $8MM of the $9MM still owed.

This is why some teams refuse to give signing bonus money in the contracts. Now for fun, check out this contract

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/auston-matthews

No one is buying out an elite player in their prime, this is just to see the extreme of signing bonus money structure.

I’m not doing this again..lol. But I’m sorry, your math is wrong. Mine is right.

Ladd makes 5.5M for 3 remaining yrs. that’s 5.5M x 2/3 =3.663M x 3=10.989M still owed. pro-rate that number out to 6 years and it’s 10.989M/6= 1.832M. Add the 3M signing bonus. You get 4.832M(give or take b/c for 2/3 I’m just multiplying by .67 instead of .66666667).

The same number you get putting it into the buy-out calculator. The same number he was getting back and I disagreed with b/c I didn’t know about the signing bonus due. But my math is right. Go back and look at it too. Just add in the signing bonus and it’s right.

I got 1.832M for Ladd. Plus the 3M = 4.832M(again give or take cause I’m using .67(2/3) istead of the full .66666667).
