What is Dermotts greatest skill? Is he great on the pp? On the pk? Scoring? Hitting?

he’s young, he’s sorta a lil bit of a pest to play against, he’s not the biggest guy but he’s a lil pest. good puck mover with a good first pass. he could be a great number 4 on the rangers with fox miller and nils coming up

He's very middle of the pack in all aspects, needs to improve his decision making if he wants to be a top 4 guy, he's likely another 2/3 years yet before he rounds out into a does everything fine but nothing spectacular

Ok, so rangers top 3 are all offensive and physical and with the exception of ADA they are solid defensively. Rangers would be looking for primarily defensive and pk specialist. I know Dermott isn’t good for the pk or the leafs would be keeping him with their #’s. Bogosian is by no means a decent D man and is getting a roster spot And paid over Dermott who apparently has only upside and should be a top 4? This is the part that everyone else is struggling with, not to mention there are plenty of FA of equal or better value available without giving up the pick. The rangers also have 3-4 prospects for LD that would be above Dermott so that wouldn’t be a good fit.

I think a different destination would be needed

Very tactful and skilled D in terms of skating balance/foot work/puck moving. Consistently puts himself in good positions so he doesn't have to over commit. Clever as well. Very efficient style. At worst I'd say he'll be Dan Hamhuis at best Matt Niskanen.

He has a better SKATR chart than Ryan Lindgren fwiw and they factor in all major types of context (better SKATR than half the league too while we're at it)

It's all about nuances with Dermott but they're crucial

Have you seen our right side? There’s no way. Plus prospects

He’s just a bad fit for Ny and cap space is tight

I watch at least 50 leaf games a year and I can’t imagine him ever being a MN

I doubt the market is there for Kerfoot.

Oilers don’t really need him as Turris is our 3c now.

if all of this is true, why did TOR sign Bogo before figuring out Dermott.
if TOR values Bogo over Dermott, the guy is worth a conditional 6th at best, not a 3rd...

Edmonton already has a 3C, who’s arguably just as effective as Kerfoot, for free while only costing $1.6M in capspace. Why would we then pay a 2nd and a 4th for the $3.5M version when we’ve already got our guy?

Also please don’t say he can play wing. $3.5M is too much for a 3rd line winger, plus we have plenty of bottom 6 wingers

He is better but now that they signed turris for two years, they won't trade for kerfoot for at least a year

So I said Turris is arguably just as effective as Kerfoot and you offered no information contradicting that, other than a simple statement of opinion. Kerfoot is certainly younger and still has some potential but the Question is still: why would Edmonton give up good assets to get a guy they cannot afford, when they already have a player who can fill the role well?

If they were to go out and get another forward, there are plenty of decent ones on the free agent market right now that can be had for cheap. Edmonton nor any other team will give you that kind of return for a $3.5M 3C in a flat cap world.

I’m happy for you guys, you get to keep him and see if he can become something of value. We can focus on our extremely deep pool of D prospects and not have to worry about giving him a second chance
