Do you honestly think that Danault and Tatar have more trade value than Couture or Stamkos? Or are you just a biased Habs fan?

I don't know if Tatar alone would get you both Stamkos and Johnson. You'd probably have to add a few 1st/2nd round picks as well.

Do you think I'm gonna help out teams that want to unload bad contracts for free?

I mean...I guess it's very kind of Florida to do it for you!

TB won the cup without him and they need cap space to resign Cirelli, Sergachev and Cernak

So...they should use him as a sweetener to dump TJ?

Tatar is worth a mid-late 1st. So, let's say that the 2nd, 3rd and 5th are relatively equivalent to a late 1st. You think TJ costs Stamkos to move?

They actually need players and a 2023 2nd is nothing extraordinary to ask for. That pick won't pan out at least before 2026. I need to unload them but they're not detrimental cap hits. I honestly wouldn't give a crap if I got nothing in return and I wouldnt care to throw in a sweetner either.

Unloading TJ alone doesn't help the cap situation for TB. For this year only the 7 mill that Stamkos frees up will be useful. Next year when Tatar's contract expires they'll have an extra 4 mill. They can bridge their RFAs for 1 year and then give them long term deals the year after. It doesn't really matter in the end cause Stamkos would have to waive his clause.

Oh yeah they're definitely bad contracts. It's not like both of them have led their teams to the Cup Finals. Which the Habs haven't been to since 1993. But go off

If Florida *Needs players*, why wouldn't they just go and sign a couple of UFA's, who would likely come cheaper, and wouldn't mean taking on the Byron dump?

Stamkos didn't lead anything. He only played 3 MINUTES in the entire playoff run. TJ didn't lead them to a cup either.

Well they still haven't signed anyone so I don't know what they're waiting for. Lehkonen is a RFA, still young and hasn't peaked IMO not saying he'll be a sure top 6 but he's more than capable playing shut down role and still providing offense. If they lock him at 3 mill for 7 yrs it'll end up paying off.

Uh, SJ is gonna say no. You want us to pay to move our 1/2C with retention for a rental.

There's a ton of guys still unsigned. It's been about a week since anyone really signed (aside from some AHL-type guys). Does this mean every GM in the league is sitting around doing nothing?

No of course. You should keep Danault for that third line anyways

He's still a bad contract considering his age. Danault is only a rental if you let him walk

Players that finish top 6 in Selke voting don't play 3rd line and they don't get paid as 3rd liners.

Nischushkin finished 8th, and is on the 4th line.

You're going to have to pay to dump Drouin in this economy.

True but Nuke doesn't play C, and wasn't on 50+ pt pace prior to Covid. I can't afford him to play Danault 3C at the raise he'll get.

Like how the Habs want Stamkos in this scenario and they're still paying a ransom to move him?

Level of desperation of me dumping Drouin and TB dumping Stamkos and TJ isn't the same. MTL is fine as it is I really don't need to acquire Stamkos. But TB is feeling other teams breathing down their necks with offersheets for their RFAs.

Guess it depends on when you trade him. Cos you'd be 5mil over the cap without that trade. You've also worked yourself into a Tampa cap crunch next season with KK, Poehling, Mete etc.

As for having teams breath down their necks.... Do they? there's been no inkling of actual offersheets at this point. Johnson is in the minors and Tampa can go over by 10% have they 12million in off season space right now. Yes they need to move and teams know that but bro, this deal is just insane.
