While I hate the Talbot deal with their D they should be trying to compete now

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 23, 2020
Published: Oct. 23, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They have good D but the majority are at the end of their prime, so they kind of have no choice but to try to compete now, so I think they have to try to upgrade their current C corps despite having some good C's coming up in Boldy and Rossi, they don't have time to wait (before Suter and Spurgeon's contracts become anchors) to compete.

I traded for D Strome here, they can also trade for R Strome, or sign Haula. All are 2c's, or in the Strome's case I suppose young enough to still argue they can develop into 1 C (Some would say Haula is more a good 3C than a 2C).

But they need to do something for their centre depth unless they think Rossi is ready to play top 6 C in the NHL, or Johansson has magically morphed back into a C, or they think Erricson Ek is suddenly a 1C.

Trades
MIN
  1. Strome, Dylan [RFA Rights]
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Chicago seems ready to move on from Strome with Dach overtaking him in the playoffs.
Their D has two big prospects coming in on the right side, but Dumba would by far be their best current NHLer. They could trade Murphy if they wished, or keep both to give their prospects more time to push their way up
CHI
  1. Dumba, Matt
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
You can toss a retained Bjugstad in if you wish if Chicago needs the C depth but I don't think they do.

i have been really confused with what Minnesota has done this offseason. I know they have good centre prospects coming but they wanted a 1c now. I didn't understand why they decided to acquire guys like Bonino and Johansson. Even if they play centre, neither of them are 1cs. just so confused by what they have done this offseason

no need for Dumba, Boqvist, Mitchell, Regula are the future on the right side and Seabrook isn't going anywhere any time soon, plus we have Murphy

Trading Dumba deprecates their D depth substantially basically voiding the whole point of your post. Pateryn, hunt and Soucy are al bottom pairing Dmen.

I was just wondering whether this makes any sense for CHI, for all the reasons you mentioned. I could see the Wild making a run at Strome next offseason but likely for pick/prospect package.

Read my description above but essentially he is too far away when they need to compete before Spurgeon/Suter age and become cap anchors

Hawks would want one of those two 1st round picks and a B prospect

Seems like a good piece with a good shot at being a 1c long term. But they've built their team weird where they kind of don't have time to wait and develop him properly.
