Risky but look at that offense

Created by: Hawkisles
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 23, 2020
Published: Oct. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Isles sign Hamonic to allow a Pulock for Laine deal. It’s risky, but Hamonic would be a great fit with the Isles defense first philosophy, and Dobson would be the #1 defenseman above him by next year anyways. And besides, the Isles defense has worked despite being somewhat nameless and the forwards notoriously pitch in on defense in Barry’s system. Losing Pulock won’t be nearly as critical as one might think.

Not gonna lie, defense this year could be rocky, but Dobson, Aho, Wilde and Bolduc make for a bright future on defense. So the defensive setbacks will be temporary.

Why take the risk? Look at that offense. Two phenomenal shots to surround a premier playmaker on the 1st line, last playoff’s famous 2nd line, and a murderer’s row of 3rd liners. Offensive woes will be a thing of the past on this team. And for the most part, these forwards have already proven to be defensively sound.

This is how we get 100 point Barzal.

As for the financial side of things, the expansion draft will go a long way on that front. We could pull a Grabovski with Komarov or Ladd and trade Varlamov to a team needing a solid starter

I personally wouldnt trade pulock straight up for Laine, especially after trading Toews. The isles defense was nameless but if anything trotz system holds back guys like toews + pulock. Pulock is under-appreciated. It would set the isles back big time

Hamonic fell off a cliff defensively , I wouldn’t even sign him unless it was for under 2 mill.

Yeah it’s just not a risk worth taking imo. Maybe if Toews was still here but Hamonic is on the top pair is really scary and relying on Dobson being ready to take that spot from him next year is also not a guarantee. I like Laine but I think getting him would weaken us too much when you consider what we have to give up

Obviously Laine is great, but I think you're underestimating how important Pulock is. Especially after we traded Toews

Pulock is a nice start, but Iskhakov would need to be replaced with someone much better if the Jets are only getting a second.

Best I would do is Wilde, Holmstrom or Bellows. Wahlstrom and Dobson are no gos.

It would likely need to be Wahlstrom, or I doubt Chevy considers it.

Wahlstrom and Pulock are both critical future core pieces, Isles can’t give up both. One idea could be Pulock+Eberle, but Dobson, Wahlstrom and Sorokin are all untouchable.

Understandable. I doubt the Jets have any interest in Eberle due to age though.

Fair enough, though I’d say Eberle’s window as of now is still open. I’d also say he’s a much better fit on Winnipeg, Barry’s system kind of stifles his production imo.
