Nate Schmidt Where was Sweeney

Created by: Duggysdanglers
Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 25, 2020
Published: Oct. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not sure why they signed McKegg. Sweeney could have hit one outta the park had he been awake enough to know that Schmidt was available. That would have helped to make up for losing Krug in Free Agency. Pretty sure NS is better at 5v5 too. McAvoy can takeover as PP QB. Grizz can do that role on PP2.

Crazy that Vancouver got a top pairing defenseman at $5M for a 3rd round pick...

I know. Sweeney had to have been on vacation.

SKATR has Krug ~20 percentiles ahead of Schmidt by 5v5 impact but they have inversely tough context: Krug cushioned / NS *opposite of cushioned*

So probably Krug is a tier better all told but not eons

Studies so far suggesting context mostly washes out

I’m sure that Nate would have had a better time defending Maroon in front of the net in OT of Game 5.

He likes to play a very minor ball game. Craig Smith and Ondrej Kase we’re quiet moves. He’s gotta step out his bubble and make a splash. Especially after losing Krug.

I’m sure the Bs will stay quiet. They are still gun shy after the Rick Nash trade fiasco.

It was interesting... I think the contract probably scared him and other teams away. I’m also of some belief that they want some of their internal guys to play (Zboril, Vaak, etc.) and if they need help they’ll get it during the year. It’s tough timing to coincide with where the core is, and I’m not saying I agree with him standing still with it but that might be where his head was at.

Quiet moves but that could bring a lot

No real top6 RWs other than Pastrnak in the past 4 years hurt+ 5on5 scoring issues
Kase: 93% of his goals (past 3Y) have been at even strength+plays RW (and got him while dumping Backes' contract)
Smith 73% of his goals (past 3Y) have been at even strength+plays RW (6x 20 G/82 GP)

That's what the Bruins need. Not a big move like signing a free agent (Beleskey/Backes) and overpaying them. Just need a top4 LHD now.

Bruins aren’t winning a Stanley Cup if he keeps walking around eggshells to not trade major assets for major returns. I guarantee you that. He’s slowly letting this core die, and slowly getting ready for a Hawks-Esque Fire Sale.

If you have a chance to grab a top 4 LD for a third round pick then you grab him. Work out the playing time later.

Sure, I’m not disagreeing with you. His cap limits their flexibility but they’re in a win now mode I get it. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out I guess.

Kings decline, they have to save room for contracts.

Another problem you gotta think about is the expansion draft. Maybe Sweens was afraid of exposing gryz and thats y they didnt go after him. Cap restraints was probably another issue. Maybe no one wants moore. We don't know whats happening in closed doors. I would give sweens the benefit of the doubt.
