Jets don't do this. They need a Pesce or Hamilton with Necas.

This is the best trade for Laine I saw yet
I think it’s fair for both side
The only problem I see is Skjei contract is expensive and got a lot of terms but they could trade him when Heinola or Samberg are ready
WpgJts liked this.

I picked Skjei as he is a left shot; another Minnesota player (they seem to like Winnipeg and Winnipeg does well with them). A little more money than Pesce but a little more physical, offensive and durable. Hamilton is the best of the bunch but only one more year until UFA and will either be very costly or may sign elsewhere. Seth Jarvis would be a nice add on, but ideally I think Winnipeg keeps Laine long term!

Skjei is brutal.

You’re not going to get a team that pays that much for Laine, certainly not CAR. No way they send 2 yrs of ELC Necas and the ELC years to come with Jarvis only to royally screw their cap situation next year with having to re-sign Svechnikov, Laine and Hamilton.

Am sorry, but if Laine is traded, history tells us the return will be underwhelming.

No idea about this trade, but I do like those two teams as trading partners in terms of a Laine deal.

Yeah the canes are not doing that deal. No way they move Jarvis or necas. Skjei they would move but asking for both necas and Jarvis is a dead end

Laine is a proven high end talent, he won't be moved unless quality is returned. Taking Skjei contract back even adds more to the value for the Jets. Necas is a pretty sure bet, Jarvis is not but the Jets will need a first round pick from pretty much any offer whether they chose Jarvis or a first round pick from one of the next two drafts would be the decision by the two teams. If Carolina wants Laine and his goals they have to give up someone high end and Necas is probably the best for both parties as Carolina's other big name forwards are not being moved for a strong push this year and next; which would be the point of trading for Laine.

They have 30 million in projected cap space next year. Svechnikov can be bridged if need be as Neiderreiter and Staal are up in the seasons following and will be either let go or re-signed far cheaper. Carolina is in great shape to sign those 3 stars and probably get a real goalie too. Also, unless Laine goes to a whole other level in Carolina I don't see him being any different than Aho salary wise (he won't get Skinner/Pietrangelo/Stone money).

All that cap space disappears quickly when you have to pay Hamilton $7-8M+, Laine $8M+ and Svechnikov $6-8M+. Oh, and by the way, you have 2 new goalies to sign, plus round out your bottom 6 with the leftovers.

So no, Laine to CAR for 2 players that will contribute on their ELCs in a flat cap environment doesn’t make sense at all for Carolina. You need to temper your expectations if that’s what you’re expecting in return from any team.
