Bold&aggressive offer from Jets!
Washington could NOT say no, most likely.
Jets would be criticized, but better.
Well done..-~

Who do you think? And the answer isn't Winnipeg.

Ordinarily, I'd guess Leonsis says no, and MacLellan warns that the team will rebuild in a couple years without something drastic like this. But with potentially no fans in the stands this year, maybe WSH just gets it over with?

Ordinarily I'd guess Ovechkin says no, but if he gets to stick with Kuznetsov and join a contender, who knows?

Caps say no. Kuz > Vesalainen and Copp (I don’t care if it is the Jets top prospects). 99% of the teams would still take the proven player in Kuz. And Laine = Ovi(equal production to a now Ovi). Obviously the age difference w/ Ovi and Laine. But with what Ovi means to the Caps and the city. The age difference doesn’t overcome that. And in all these Laine trades, I don’t see any Jets fans adding that Laine promises to sign extension. You arnt gonna get top value unless he gonna sign an extension with the team he’s traded too. Who knows what he will get if he goes to an arbitration hearing.

What would be added to make it fair, if WSH considers it and Ovechkin considers it? At that point, WSH is rebuilding, so picks/prospects? Harkins, Gawanke, and a 1st? Any one or two of those? I don't know. I obviously thought it was fair when I posted it.

I don't think Ovechkin is going anywhere he doesn't have a shot at the title and the organization's support to play all of the power plays and break Gretzky's goal record. Is WPG's rivalry with EDM enough of an assurance that he can do it?

Jets say no, only reason our core is around Laine’s age group.. trade would need to be around younger players

Jets say no. They're not moving Laine to get drastically older.

Thanks. I agree it's not a rebuilding move. It's a one-for-two of top-six guys, and that means giving up a bit of youth. It's possible that Laine keeps improving and gets better than Ovechkin in a few years, but it's also possible he doesn't. Plenty of guys peak around 23 years old, or so, and then fall off. Some guys stay in shape and stay consistent.

I see it as a rebuilding move for WSH, where they try Eller or McMichael at 2C, and have a competition between Laine and Vrana for the 1L spot with Backstrom, and then try to still make the playoffs. Could see Lowry or even Perreault instead of Copp, if it makes any difference.
