I'd say that it's a very fair price tbh.

Straight up you’re right it’d take less than that but just because of the 20% retention and the 2yrs left on the deal instead of 1 I think a 2nd’s fair for both sides.

This would be an excellent move for the Sharks, absolutely love Palat. Honestly, Tampa is getting a solid pick back for him too, that's more than they'll be able to say for Johnson, Gourde or Coburn

Pretty much a dream by Sharks and Tampa fans that NTC Palat is leaving the Cup Champs for San Jose.

Admittedly it's probably not likely Palat waives for SJ but it's certainly possible. A rebound year is expected for SJ who still have tremendously skilled guys on their team (i.e. Karlsson Burns Kane Cooch).

A factor for Palat to leave SJ as a team he wouldn't reject a trade to in his limited-NTC could be to play with fellow Czech Hertl. Meier as his other linemate isn't too shabby of a 2nd line to play on so while it'd be great to keep playing with Point/Kucherov it's not like he'd be in for an enormous downgrade in terms of the linemates he plays with. He has to pick a few teams he wouldn't reject a trade to, so who knows, maybe that's enough to have SJ as one of them.

Palat has a full NTC this in 20/21
