The issue is keeping cap balanced. Boychuk and Varly keep the cap exchange balanced.

Just trade them to another team in a separate deal.

Also, without them it's still lacking one piece because the Islanders will be legit with Kane and those 1sts and 2nds will be late.

The assets needed to move Boychuk would make this deal impossible.

True, the picks will be late, but that’s generally how trading to a contender works. And Wahlstrom is already a damn good prospect who could, maybe not replace Kane in the long term, but fill a Top 6 RW slot down the road. Would the Hawks want another prospect? I’d say the Isles could add Wilde, Bellows, Iskhakov, someone like that, but any more than that.
