I think your trades of Toews & Kane are A LOT more realistic than most others I’ve seen suggested here

The Kane trade is horrible for the Hawks. They get:

- a backup goalie
- one of the worst defensemen & contracts in the NHL
- an ok young player that could be a 3rd liner (Mittlestadt)
- a 1st, a 2nd, & an ok prospect

So a whole lot of nothing, in exchange for one of the best players of his generation and the best American player of all time. This is probably a worse return than Ryan O’Reilly got.

Well, you’re clearly a biased homer dude

Teams aren’t gonna trade anything close to what I’ve seen most Hawks fans speculate for a guy with a $10mil cap hit whose in his 30s

These are MUCH more realistic

What do u think a guy in his 30s with a $10mil Cap hit is gonna get?
Especially during Covid, when most teams are trying to shed salary

When that guy is one of the best players in the game then you should get a way better return than those scraps

Kane is the greatest American hockey player ever. He's still producing and will continue to do so cus his game relies on his vision, not his physical attributes. His cap hit is fine.
Toews could use max 3 mil retention but then the return better be pretty damn good.
But none of this matters cus toews and kane aren't going anywhere so you sabres fans can stop making every ACGM acquiring them.

1. did i say they would be traded? NOPE

2. LOTS of Hawks fans are trading these guys away here too

3. this post was made by a Leafs fan

4. You absolutely will NOT get an amazing return for guys in their 30s with a 10mil cap hit during Covid

5. It’s not MY fault that Toews & Kane and MANY Hawks’ fans are all upset.... so blame your GM/Ownership, it’s their faults

Its an awful Kane trade but the ROR trade is still the worst.

2 Cap dumps and Thompson for ROR... One of the cap dumps said **** it and walked away from 5 million just to not even player in Buffalo

That Islanders trade is pretty rough. We shed minimal cap and in return take back a slightly better version of Boychuk, a similar-at-best version of Komarov and lose Wahlstrom, a top prospect, and some lottery tickets. If we're shedding Boychuk, we'd rather just trade straight picks to get rid of him and open up a spot for Dobson full time. I love seeing Dobson play, I'm very excited for his future.

Ristolainen is a worse cap dump than Sobotka & Berglund combined. Plus the Sabres has the added benefit of Berglund terminating his contract. Then it was Thompson + a 1st + a 2nd. So the picks cancel out, and Mittlestadt = Thompson. And we’re left with Ullmark & Asplund. So yeah, maybe not a worse return than the ROR trade, but it’s not far off.

Ok, after looking it up, I never realized how long Berglund’s contract was. Oh man that was bad.

But in terms of what Buffalo actually paid, $11 million is worse than $7 million. Although there is also the possibility of the hawks playing Ristolainen in the NHL, which has more of a negative effect than Sobotka was. Especially since Ristolainen gets way, way more ice time than Sobotka did.

“Although there is also the possibility of the hawks playing Ristolainen in the NHL, which has more of a negative effect than Sobotka was“

Risto is a solid top4 defenseman,
who’s been on really bad teams

He could be a good player if he were on a better team

It is ludicrous to even entertain the thought that the Blackhawks would move Toews and Kane ( with three years remaining). I could see it in their final year.
Ignore the windfall of picks and prospects coming back in such a trade and consider the negative implications. What does such a trade say to the Hawk’s fan base? What does it say to elite players the Hawks want to keep in the future? But most importantly is the intrinsic value which has no guarantee would be back with the franchise with the departure of the core players. This intrinsic value I speak of is the professionalism of Toews, Kane, Keith and Seabrook which transcended a winning culture this franchise hadn’t witnessed since the 1960’s, and for Hawk fans reaped greater benefits.

This franchise is approaching its 100th season. And the history of the Blackhawks, as a fan, there hasn’t been a lot to cheer for, a lot to be excited about. This past decade has given Chicago Blackhawks fans perhaps the best hockey of those nearing 100 years. I personally want to see Toews, Kane, Keith and Seabrook retire wearing the Hawks jersey not for what I expect in the future but for what I received in the past.

Trade away that professionalism, intrinsic value, that culture of winning and it could be generations before the franchise reestablish that culture.
