If you need the $3MM cap space, I can understand trading Lowry, but you need something back. I'm going to make a very weird suggestion.
Gaborik still has a little use left for the Sens. They are above the cap floor now, and will be more so once Tierney's is signed. They aren't in too much danger of going over the cap ceiling, even if they have a great season, and need to add at the trade deadline. Gaborik's value to the Sens now is the floor buffer if they decide to trade off 1-2 medium sized contracts at the trade deadline, meaning Tierney, Connor Brown, Gudbranson, maybe Zaitsev, or even Anisimov.
The Sens only lose about $2MM cap hit, but take on an extra $1.5MM amount to be paid, if they swapped Gaborik for Lowry, and Gaborik would help the Jets cap situation considerably since he can be placed on LTIR. This is Gaborik's final year, so this is a rare possibility to trade him. The numbers I listed are cap hit differences, and then salary vs uninsured portion of Gaborik's salary (about $975K).
WPG
Gaborik, Marian
Angus Crookshank
2021 6th round pick (OTT)
OTT
Lowry, Adam
2021 3rd round pick (WPG)
LW Angus Crookshank is a college hockey player, drafted by Ottawa in 2018 (5/126), and I added him to the 6th round pick because Ottawa doesn't have a 2021 5th round pick to trade. Teams don't usually trade picks from future years, especially lower picks. I might be under selling Gaborik, he has good cap relief value, but I think Lowry is a decent player...
