I dont see how the blues do this trade, their D core is already decimated.

I like the line up. I think the trades are a bit off but whatever. How do you intend to keep your additions the following year? Parayko and Reilly are going to cost 7M each depending on their play. I think the Saad contract is rather rich as well.

Yah I like to have Drai/McDavid/Matthews on one line as well, but its not going to happen either.

If Leafs don't make second round again like the thread poster said, they make this deal in the off season. Then it's 3 years of Marner for 1 of Parayko. No chance St. Louis says no to that with how they just saw Pietrangelo walk. But there's no chance Leafs would consider that anyways

They get a much better and younger player for one

Dunn/Krug/Faulk is fine as a top 3 then Bort/Scand is okay depth then just need to sign a few useful UFAs

Positional need should never supercede aggregate quality, everyone agrees this is the case in drafting, should also be extended to team building etc.

An 8 forward core and 4 defense core is a better team than a 5 forward core and 6 defense core

Unless it's to an extreme and this is far from it

Forest for trees especially given they're UFA-1 and UFA-5 respectively that's at very least like trading 1$ for 5$ if anything should be criticized in the inverse

You lack the understanding Blues are not idiots like Toronto. First off Blues value defense but Blues aren’t willing to do what Vegas did get rid of all of the depth for 1 player who is already past his prime. Blues see how other teams paid players for winning cup after winning a cup they aren’t gonna do that, indeed Marner is good but he’s a Playmaker we have a ton of those we need a goal scorer no way in hell Blues would do this. We re-sign Parayko next year and he done with it. It’s not worth paying 8 figures for a guy who wouldn’t produce like he does on Toronto because Toronto is a flashy offensive team Blues are defensive. So this hold narrative that because Pietrangelo walked they are gonna let Parayko walk shows everyone that you are full of it and full of your own team. And you know it.

Decimated? Krug, Dunn, Parayko, Faulk. We're solid and our pipeline is just as good. Losing Petro hurts but there are few teams in the nhl that have better D's

Faulk lol???. the 3 time all star who played on his non-dominant side last season and still played well. Krug who consistently puts up 50 points? You have no idea how stacked we are on D. And regardless, we have zero interest in Marner. We don't need a playmaker which has been mentioned countless times and eating a 11 mill contract would be atrocious for most teams.

Faulk and Krug both are not defense guys, they are offense. You understand that right. Parayko does more for your team than you will ever know.

Preds decline. Kerfoot doesn't upgrade the lineup. Rather keep the cheaper, more versatile player.

Not saying he’s not worth pretty close to even but I should have known you overrate your players. I’d rather take a quality Defenseman who is Top 20 on a cheap contract than pay Marner one of the Top 10 most expensive contracts in the league to be boosted by his teammates (which wouldn’t be the same in St.Louis)

Blues say no because they need Parayko more than Marner. Plus, GMDA doesn't like to pay more than 8 mil per player so it won't happen.

To be fair, I think Marner boosts his teammates more than they boost him. However, Blues say no because Parayko is a much greater need for the team than Marner.

Faulk's value is inflated because he is a RHD. He's not good defensively. If i could trade Faulk yesterday for a 1st rounder I would.

Wrong, when he is on a line with Matthews it’s actually the opposite of what you are referring to. Nylander actually does more production wise than Marner based on QoC and his possession and shot metrics.
