If I’m being honest.... depends on what your looking at as far as defense.
Carlson is top 3 (hard to argue) offensive Dmen in the NHL BUT his defense isn’t great. IMO it’s not nearly as poor as everyone thinks. People think he’s on par with Jack Johnson.... I’d say if you are looking at overall D men. AP and McAvoy are really impressive. I would take EK off the list. I don’t think he’s top ten unfortunately. I would go
Carlson (I’m bias but 89 point pace is hard to top)
AP
Jones
Hamilton (might've won the Norris if he didn’t get hurt)
McAvoy
That my top 5. Honest it’s all subjective and it’s constantly changing. Lol
No but both are overrated. His on ice impacts in both ends have been mediocre at best. Hes absolutely got the tools to be a top 10 RD but besides one season back in 2017 or 2018 (I dont remember which one) when he legitimately should have won the norris that season, he hasn't come close to repeating that

He's one of the best shut down guys in the league IMO. Sure he doesn't put up incredible numbers but look at the players he passes the puck too, not even Dubois had impressive points.
If he put up 50 points every year people would think he is top 3 lol.
I most definitely believe he is top 10. But top 10 changes every year and there's so many variables so top 10 all rounded, is that better?

This dude has been bashing the keyboard for months saying Seth and nothing and is still mad that he shut down Toronto. Don’t waste your breath defending Jones. It’s not worth it. We know how good he is. Some just won’t until the bar is blue.
Tbh I understand his advanced stats aren’t the greatest but his impact on a team when he’s in the lineup vs when he’s out is insane. You know that stupid saying where the old guys say a guy plays taller when they have a big guy on their team. It’s kinda like that. Cbj take more chances on offense when Seth is on the ice. Leave him out to dry more cuz they know he can handle it.

I don’t care about advanced analytics. Advanced analytics also apparently say Drew Doughty is horrible. Yet a lot of games last season he was the best defenseman on the ice. In the games against rival teams and playoff teams he was INCREDIBLY good. Although he didn't try much against the non playoff teams.
The thing that amazes me about analytical people is they don't bother watching the player, they just look at the analytics and assume that's the case. If they ever actually watched players they'd see a lot of their concepts are being contradicted right in front of them. There is no invisible play lol
