Just showing how tight this cap is

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 26, 2020
Published: Oct. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here's the team if Tampa gets their RFAs to all take way below market value on two year bridges

(Market is likely 6-7 for 5 years for Cirelli and Sergachev I'd guess and 4ish for 5 for Cernak)

I'll sign them for 4.5 for 2 and 2.75 for 2

Thats 21 skaters with likely much less than they get and 8.5 mil above the cap.

If you give them more likely contracts it's likely another 5 mil or about 13 mil over the cap.

This isn't being fixed by just trading Johnson or Killorn alone (remember even if they're replaced by a Ufa min contract they still don't save the full cap hit)

My guess is one of the three is traded along with a retained Johnson and Killorn. I'd guess Cirelli as he's the biggest "luxury" with Stamkos and point. The d depth isn't as good

Or POTENTIALLY Stamkos plus maybe Killorn. But trading Stamkos? Wow

They will need to bite the bullet and use their 1st round pick (and possibly other high pick(s) to pay someone to take a large contract or two off their hands.
(The waiver thing they did on Johnson was an attempt to unload him for free, with ZERO takers)...

Stamkos has missed considerable time recently and is now showing he is becoming more prone to extended injuries.
He would be a prime candidate.
Cirelli could slide in at 2C.
If it is Stamkos and either Gourde Killorn that they can unload, then Johnson can play 3C.
They will need to think outside the box, but make some decisions soon. This isn’t going to fix itself.

Yawn .. let me educate the youth ..

1. Cirelli was 2C all year and was great and finished 4th in NHL for Selke ..
2. Stamkos is 2nd line winger with his biggest role now as the "one timer" on the PP .. which he is 2nd in NHL behind Ovy
3. See #1 and #2 b4 you post
4. TJ destroyed 2nd line in playoffs and why he gone

Stamkos to LTIR makes sense and trading him and his 8.5M cap hit in 2021 .. cap ptoblem solved.. I laugh at some of these chicken little posts...

This would make a good article.

I guess TBL is in better position since the players they can/want to move (Johnson, Killorn, Gourde) can still be effective NHLers unlike Ladd, Boychuk, Komarov, etc. who are AHLers/7th D so it may be easier to move them. But aside from Johnson being placed on waivers, they haven't made one move in the offseason so it will take time.

Exactly. Not only the Isles are gonna have to trade young assets or picks to dump them, but they also have to replace some of them, and they can only afford mediocre, league minimum depth.

Islanders aren't that bad. Lightning have it worse. On the flipside the lighting don't have bad contracts outside of Johnson just literally too many good players. And they gave to many ntcs.

But in the end there should be takers even if they can't get value.

Islanders will have to pay their way out but are less in the whole.

In hindsight interesting comparison.

I have trouble taking anything you say seriously when last summer all you did was complain about how the team was doomed because Gourde wasn't traded

Its two really different stories. The matter with the Isles is that their cheap young players may get traded to dump their bad contracts (Bellows, Aho, etc.) Meanwhile Tampa have Volkov, Barre-Boulet, Foote who can step up, not to mention that their "bad contracts" are far more attractive.

Bolduc , Salo, and wilde have more value in a trade than Aho (even though I think Aho will be better than all of them). Bellows will most likely be traded but wahlstrom is NHL ready . Aho, wahlstrom, and Dobson will all be regulars next season.

And I was 100% correct .. as usual .. Gourde contract is killing us now... Tampa won because it added Colemen Goodrow Maroom Shatterkirk and Bogo/Schen to a great core .. their addition .. at the cost of 3 #1 picks .. was because Gourde and TJ weren't good .. pure and simple. Without those GM moves by JBB .. Tampa doesn't win

No you were wrong as you said it was the end of the world and they were doomed literally the season they won the cup.

So clearly they weren't doomed...
