Description
They sign Sergachev and Cirelli to 1 year deals worth 1 million dollars this offseason then on day 1 of the upcoming season (or just early in the season so it’s not suspicious) they sign big 7 year extensions in the 6 or 7 million dollar range so they get the deals they want officially but it starts next season. This is dependent on their agents obviously willing to go for it and the NHL not sending out a full out investigation on this

They’d still need to trade Johnson this offseason for this to work. Then with Seattle they add heavy sweetners to get them to take Gourde.

I doubt Sergachev and Cirelli would sign for 1x1. Whoever said that has some form of medical disorder.

I don’t think there would be an investigation.nothing illegal is done.

only way this would happen is if the contract extensions (for big paydays) were already agreed upon and literally ready to be extended legally once the extension window opens (the players gamble here unless they know it’s for real)

Fun “idea” but wouldn’t happen

It would be great for the bolts, but there's about a 0% chance of this happening.

They wouldn’t have to investigate it because it is illegal. Both contracts could not be signed till after the TDL. Which is why they wouldn’t risk long term injuries.

The other issue is affording those contracts next season (which I have would need to be inflated to make up for the money lost this season)

This doesn't make sense as TBL will be in the same position next year...Its not like 4 players making 5M+ are going to FA next year

In a normal season the earliest date to sign contract extensions for players on 1 year deals I believe is January 1st, but I am not sure how that applies to the coming season with the season likely starting a month afterwards.

After that, the issue becomes the team has to be cap compliant by the first day of free agency. Which is unlikely at best if everyone has extensions at full value.

Article 50.5(f) is an interesting read, but I do not think we cannot finesse our way out of this using it as a workaround this offseason. Moving Johnson at a heavy cost and signing the RFAs to bridge deals is still the best and perhaps only way out of this.

I didn’t correctly punctuate - I agree there is nothing illegal being done

There are limitations on signing extensions to one-year deals. Usually, teams have to wait until January, but with half season this year, not sure when they would be able to do.
