How is Marner an “elite winger” but Kuemper is just a “starting goalie”?

CAR easily declines, you severely underrate Necas right now and his potential

No thanks, losing way too much and don’t want that Marner contract

Marner’a deal is gonna be hard to move without Retaining money. It’s so signing bonus heavy too. For example. You now just cap strapped Carolina. You traded them 1 Skater for 3 and they lose 1M In cap room and have to replace 2 skaters now. And Nino’s contract is up after next year. And Reimer is on an expiring contract and at a good cap number at 3M for a starting goalie.

And The leafs are already retaining salary on Kessel. I’m not sure how that would work.

This deal is illegal anyways because the Leafs are already retaining 1.2 M on Kessel from the Pittsburgh trade where they acquired Kappy. So because they are retaining salary I don't believe that Toronto can reacquire Kessel

Man this post is at very least an incredibly well done attempt at something very tricky and people are just being their myopic cynical brusque selves as usual

Anyone commenting should take at least a minute to appreciate how well crafted this is especially due to complexity, how thoughtful and nuanced it is

Thank you for this interesting, cogent, worthwhile AGM and apologies for the peanut gallery here that have gone stale... all cynicism and no soul

    EDIT

"No hustle either, skip." that's right darryl ⚾️

Kuemps listed as elite later on

Maybe in the ocean of nuances here, while trying to craft something complex to a point of being overwhelming, they missed a single minor one

After a decade of struggling mightily to score they're likely okay with tradeoffs to acquire a 90 point per year winger, they can just unload Martinook types

No easier time to acquire league minimum talent

Valid to bring up but I reckon they can make it work

Love the minor nuances of Phil returning briefly to Tornto to fight St*ve Simm*ns to the death (he'll win easily) and the Corsi master going to the Corsi gm awesome face

    PS

A team acquiring a player they're still retaining on 😅

Maybe u, and most fans don’t value 3rd-4th line players as much as a goal-scorer. But I assure you NHL teams, NHL GM’s, and NHL coaches do. And Carolina has Aho, and Scechenkov. I don’t think scoring is their problem.

Especially a goal scorer making 11M/year for the next 5-6 years.

It’s why Toronto is in a bad spot. Paying 42M out of 81M on 4 players(not including a D or goalie either). Have to pay 40M to the other 16-19 players on their roster.

Pardon all the comments but this is effing impressive lol it genuinely makes full sense for each team and I love what it does to Toronto's lineup especially

This should go in the AGM hall of fame 🏆

Now to make it happen irl 🤔

But there is a rule that only 2 teams can retain salary, not 3

This is not a good deal for the canes it ruins their cap structure entirely. I’d rather keep necas and pesce along with all of the other pieces. The canes depth is one of their best strengths and this deal destroys it for them
