He had one more even strength point last year than Jeff Skinner, for whatever that's worth.

He had his best season when Jeff Skinner had his worst? it's a lot more than that and basing your argument off one of our worst player last year is not building a strong case for Panik. Skinner had 40 goals the prior season when he was on a competent line. Nobody compares outlier seasons.

Panik's been a 2nd line wing, and played at that level again in the 2nd half of last year. Skinner has been a 2nd line wing, too. The Sabres could use another 2nd line wing.

He's not a top 6 player. Just because WSH has shoehorned him there doesn't justify his performance at all. 9 goals for 22 points is barely third line production not to mention the upgraded talent in the top 6 that he gets to play with. We're not interested.

No. WSH shoehorned him onto their 4th line/press box rotation, where he got 20 points in his last 36 games of last year, a 45 point pace, with a lot of dirty goals down low. I think WSH keeps him to play 2nd line in case of injuries, and keeps him on 3rd line this year for secondary scoring. I just thought your comment was nonsense.

Other guys who got stuck in Todd Reirden's doghouse: Andre Burakovsky, Chandler Stephenson, Travis Boyd. It's almost an honor.

Well you're overvaluing him. Think what you want.

Panik is probably better than Mittelstadt right now.
Here is the deal, on the LW one of Skinner, Hall, Olofsson, or Kahun would be the odd man out if Adams traded for Panik.
Skinner had a terrible year and is definitely better than Panik.
Kahun playing for 3 different teams scores at about 1/2 per game over a short 2 season NHL career.
On the right wing, Cozens WILL be better than Reinhart and Okpose has 93 pts with 38 goals over the last 3 seasons while Panik had only 75 pts and 31 goals.
I do not see him bumping any of them out of the line up either.
He does not fit on the LW nor the RW.

Most importantly his salary will be nearly $2,000,000 more than Mittelstadt.
I think I would keep Mittelstadt with a higher potential than give him up for Panik.
If he PKed, I could possibly see a reason, but as the trade is written I see no reason for Buffalo to take on extra cap this year.

In Ari, Panik was on the third unit of the league's best PK. IN WSH, he had a similarly small role on the 6th best PK. He plays either wing, but

I'm not OP. I think Mittelstadt is still a half decent prospect. Next summer if he hasn't show improvement, this could be fair, but give Mittelstadt some time to show he can translate his game to the highest level.

Had you merely posted, "Buffalo is keeping Mittelstadt," I would not have commented.

But what I said still applies. They literally wouldn't put a claim.

It's 2020. Tyler Johnson just cleared waivers. Casey Mittelstadt might clear waivers. But fans who claim this level of insider knowledge about more than one club tend to be engaged in puffery, at best.

They wouldn't claim him if you waived him minutes after signing him.
