Yes. The LD concenrs me after Morrisey. There is a lot.of potential in Niku, Heinila and Samberg; but for a team in win now mode, Forbort and Poolman doesn't give me a warm fuzzy.

Those 3 need sheltered minutes and development time.

Melo is a top 4 dman, and a better option than Hamonic at this point. He's not sexy but he drives play at both sides of the ice.

I really don’t understand the Beaulieu and forbort signings. There were better d available and Winnipeg is one of the few non-bottom feeder teams with cap space. Devon toews would have been a perfect fit

Short of Chevy thinking Niku and Heinola are ready for bigger minutes, I have nothing.

Teows at $4.1 million I think would have made him a non fit, but yes...... sooooo many options this offseaon to put in a legit #4LD.

Edmundson would have been a great fit (love that move for the Habs)

Depnding on how desperate the Isles get, Leddy with retention works too. Although I Pelech would be better lol.

Wow, agreed. Toews would have been a perfect fit. Maybe they look to scoop Dunn from STL. They have no cap space at the moment, even an offersheet is possible.

One of Heinola or Samberg (prob Samberg) is definitely going to get a shot at this point unless if we make further moves. I saw rumours that they were trying to pick up Mackenzie weegar with Roslovic being the main piece going the other way, and I would be a huge fan of that deal

If DeMelo is in your top 4 you have one of the worst top 4 D's in the league.

Yes the Jets should of made the Toews trade, it's possible Chevy worried he wouldn't want to sign with the Jets but it's more likely that Chevy just doesn't do much and thinks the lineup will build itself eventually through the draft, he's just way too risk averse.

Just sign Hamonic and get one of him or Pionk to play their offside. Too much put into right vs left IMO

If DeMelo was a Top4 then why did he only sign for $3 mil? DeMelo can fill in for injuries but should not be a permanent Top4.

That is top 4 money? You don't give four years at 3mil to a guy you see as a 5/6. It's too easy to find bottom pair guys, there's no need to commit to them like that.

"Top 4" defenseman doesn't mean "superstar defenseman". He's a simple, no frills defender who can eat minutes all situations and generates good results.

If he's your number 1 or 2, I'd agree with you, but he's a very effective 3/4. He's not sexy, but you can play him 18-20 minutes all situations and be confident that he will produce good results.

He's a guy who makes other players better. In Chabot's entire career, the only D partner who has truly elevated Chabot's play, not dragged him down was Dylan DeMelo. He doesn't even need to be the best player on his D pair to be a very effective top 4 option.

Winnipeg again had to pay more than most other teams to sign an UFA(a soon to be UFA in this case). He knew that was the best deal he was going to get otherwise he would tested the UFA waters.

Getting a Top4 dman at trade deadline for a third is telling you two things. 1. He is not a Top4 dman and 2. He is not a Top4 dman

I think he's a top 4 pairing, meaning his skill set plays nicely with an actual top 4 guy in Morrisey. NOt everyone who plays in the top 4 needs to be super good to elite.
Demelo is defensively responsible, makes a good first pass and is a smart. He wont put up big points, but sometimes you need a guy just to be solid

Big issue WPG has is DeMelo is going to be playing on the 1st line with Morrissey. DeMelo is not that guy. I think DeMelo can fill in for the Top4 but is not a permanent solution.

I disagree...respectfully. I think he fits nicely with Morrisey on the top pair. What the big issue is the other 2 guys in the top 4. Pionk is fine, but he needs a partner capble of putting up big minutes and play a two way style. Only way you get that guy is to trade for him, but nobody really deals those guys or develop them which i think the jets are doing with Heinola and Samberg, and hopefully with Chisolm, Gawanke and Kovacevic.
If the jets could add one of Vatanen or Hamonic on a one year deal and put them into the top 4 i think the team is better. I dont care about right side vs left...it's about talent and/or NHL exp

I agree that a one year contract of Hamonic or Vatanen is a short term solution until Samberg or Heinola are fully ready. I prefer a Morrissey and Hamonic on the first line and will have to settle on a Pionk and DeMelo on the second. If Samberg and/or Heinola make the team then slide Demelo to 3rd line with Heinola and Samberg is with Pionk on the second. But that might be a big IF.

Hamonic was first line material and I am hoping if he comes to WPG then he can return to his former self.

I cant believe Hamonic isnt signed. He must be asking for too much term or money? there has to be a lot of interest in a RSD capable to playing responsible big minutes

yeah, what is going on with Hamonic? Chevy signs Hamonic and deals with Roslovic and Niku (sign or trade) and his big moves are done. Can't see him doing anything bigger at this point. Only other move is to move Perreault's contract.

Jets are in a tough spot (slightly) they have a need for D, but their need could be filled internally if these guys take a big step. I still think Hamonic is a no brainer IMO
