Would hate to sell low on DeBrincat but this really isn’t “selling low” hmmm....

Valuewise, it’s pretty good ngl but I’d hate to see DeBrincat go, we’re gonna need him goal scoring once Kane starts to truly decline

Chicago accepts this I'd want to believe as it is a pretty reasonable offer. Although some colorado fans think Byram is the 2nd coming himself (coga16), I'm a bit concerned about him ever reaching his ceiling as a 1st liner. The Athletic recently in the past month did a top prospects ranking and Byram was quite low on the list; somewhere past #40 if I recall correctly; needless to say, not nearly as high as he was a year ago.

This is because he had less points last season. Sakic asked Byram to focus more on the defensive aspect of his game, in order to be a more complete player and NHL ready. Unlike Rantanen, Byram is ineligible to be an underage AHL player; I'm sure Sakic would love for Byram to get a season with the Eagles. Looks like it won't work out like that. Make no mistake: the Avs are still grooming Byram to be the #1 LD

I wouldn't say the the Avs aren't still trying to groom or count on Byram to be their first liner, and there is no doubt Byram is being asked to pay attention to his defense side, but that was the knock on Byram; can he actually be a good defender and this past season proved he has a long way to go. The Athletic reflected that in their rankings with multiple defensive prospects ranking ahead of him. Again, not saying Byram won't be a very good solid player, but he was the highest drafted defenseman in a noticeably very weak defensive draft year. Had he gone the year prior, he wouldn't have gone before Dahlin or Hughes of course and not sure where he'd fall in between Bouchard, Dobson and Boqvist. I personally don't see Byram at this point being much better then Boqvist (comparing both their year after the draft) and both having similar playing styles way more so then Bouchard and Dobson. They are close, and I would give byram the edge as far as potential, but point is, I don't think Byram or Boqvist are a lock for a 1st line player despite boqvist playing 1st line with Keith in Chicago. Again, I think some fans are thinking Byram is the next EK or Ducan Keith, same in Chicago with Boqvist, and both players have a long way to go IMO to reach their ceilings so not sold either will be a top 10 defensive player in the NHL once they peak, unlike a Dahlin, Hughes, Makar, etc.

Word is they are very eager to give him games and ice time, especially given the good chance Avs lose a D to Seattle. Byram prob won't be a top pair guy right away, but he's stepping into a great support situation. Mgmt expects him to be a franchise cornerstone, and that's how Sakic would treat him when he picks up the phone.

Yes, I wouldn't say the Avs are not treating to groom or count on Byram to be their liner; I'm sure they are and they should be. Did he turn pro this coming season or playing another year in the juniors? Hopefully he's in the juniors and is just brought up for 9 games to get a taste so his ELC can start in 21/22 versus this coming season.
