I mean if a 3rd overall draft pick turns into a 60point per year center, that's a success.

He's going to be a 65 to 75 point per year center I'm betting and I'd take it all day long at #3 overall. Very Toews like IMO but slightly better offensively and slightly worse defensively.

Dach had the skills to be a NHL player right after the draft whereas Suzuki stumbled from the prior year and Byram didn't look great both in the juniors against kids. Turcotte struggled against playing with bigger more fully grown young men in the NCAA. Both leagues are 2 big steps down from the NHL. There's your comparisons all at the same age.

Dach is going to be a very special player and willing to bet quite a bit he's got the best chance to reach his ceiling (The Athletic agrees) and not just because of his size. We will see of course, but for anyone to be down on Dach is just comical. 28 other teams would have loved to have taken him in the draft as was reported by even the Avs who the GM there is kind of one of the top 5 if not top 3 GMs in the league.

Alright, again, that whole comparing him to others in the draft class is all well and good. I’m glad hawks fans are prideful of him being in the NHL. I still see others being even better, but that’s just my opinion and research.

I get that he may be special. He may even hit his ceiling. The athletic definitely loves him. It is crazy to be down on him. In the end, Joe Sakic still ended up byram and newhook, who will only make them even better. I’d be willing to bet newhook will excel a lot under mackinnon. Besides, Dach has to go up against them for the next 15 years. Crazier things have happened, but I’m sure there’s an obvious winner in that scenario for that duration.

Lol at the CEO comments.

I'm not going to lie but I didn't really want Dach that much but we were supposed to draft like 14/15th overall or something in that range and we got lucky and moved to 3rd and we got a great prospect who looked very solid as an 18yo rookie. I am super happy with that pick and think that Dach showed signs of becoming an elite center. Now of course that may never happen but that's the gamble with prospects and I definitely don't want to sell him now.

I was on the Turcotte and Byram train with Hatter, especially after the rookie tournament post draft, and after the first 20 games; but then the lights went on for me.

Without question! You’re right on that one. And if that’s the case, the hawks fan base should be very satisfied.

The correct comparison is Byram to Dach. Willing to be not one team in the lottery had Newhook above Dach or Byram. Newhook, like Debrincat and many others, may shock everyone it's certainly possible. Same with Zegras. Both are great prospects. The odds at the draft favored Dach (Sakic agreed) and still do and the gap has widened quite a bit after the playoffs. Before the playoffs I could at least entertain the idea but after, it's clear Dach has the game to step up big when it comes to big games and that's huge. That's why Toews is not overrated. His regular season he would be off games but playoff time came and he is a beast. Kane too. Dach is showing that at 18 and that's really impressive. He is going to stumble and have tough strings of games as growing pains for the next couple years but he will gain consistency with age and when he's on, he looks really good.

With all due respect to those two, it’s kinda like I tell others, that’s not saying much. I don’t mean any disrespect by that, it’s just, all three had very average to subpar regular seasons.

Oh I’m not saying newhook was on that level at the draft. What I’m saying is that them getting newhook with their second first round pick, set them up huge for the future. He’s exactly what that team needs and what feeds into their playing style. So all I’m saying is that joe still got what he needed in that draft, cuz newhook is something special too.

Ok I understand that but when the questionable 3rd overall pick performs as well or better than the CONSENSUS hyped 1st and 2nd overall picks, I'd consider that a good sign in the Draft +1 year

Not once were you talking about Zegras on here prior to the draft, c'mon man. Plenty of posts by you advocating for Byram or Turcotte.

Suzuki got Calder votes when he took 2 years longer to enter the league. Impressive but again, let's compare Dach with 2 more years of development against Suzuki last season and see. Did Zegras or Turcotte get any Calder votes; oh wait that's right they will take a couple years like Suzuki smile

If we are doing the 2017 redraft, Suzuki comes top5-6ish easily
Some takes more time, and that’s alright
Keep in mind Suzuki managed to be productive on the 4th line, imagine Dach playing on the LW with Kampf and Carpenter

I agree Suzuki would be top 6 if redrafted.

Dach played mostly 3rd line with a cast of characters also. He also didn't get the ice time on average of Suzuki. Wasn't until Strome got hurt in January where he started playing on the 2nd line and even when Strome came back after a couple weeks the two of them switched quite a bit.
