As ever my perspective is modern/analytical so if you have qualms take it up with the thorough SKATR charts: https://public.tableau.com/profile/bill.comeau#!/vizhome/SKATR2019-2020/SKATR

The forward lineup is very malleable you could shift most of the bottom 9 around alot, my goal was to insulate Chytil/KK to help ease their development

If Chytil looks awesome early then switch with Haula

You'd give the CarBenson line 10% o zone starts and the 4th line 90% or so, either way they're a shutdown line which Nino does well too (see SKATR charts)

Either way it's trying to achieve depth & quality

I’d pass on that from an oilers perspective. Don’t think the upgrade is even close to good enough to justify unloading forward prospects. Neal is a safe bet for 20+ goals plus add on the extra term and money no thanks

Pens already have Letang AND Marino. We don't need any other top four right side D. Especially not one who is hilariously overpaid. Swap out Dumo for Mike Matheson and retain 2 mil on Trouba then maybe the pens would make this trade.

you're saying your perspective is analytical and you put Erik Haula as your 2C, Chytil and Kakko on the 4th line, signed Kovy and Hoffman?

tbh, this is a pretty great display of the limitations of SKATR and what it looks like when we extract too much from data that doesn't show enough.

If Kreider had 4-5 years on his 6.5 deal I would do it. 7 is insane for a player of his ilk already at 29 years old. I agree, with only 3 years of Neal left and his ability to get 20 goals still, would rather try and get those 20 goals (with Benson and Khaira as useful depth this season), and attempt to convince Seattle to take Neal for 2 years with a pick sweetener. If that doesn't work, buying out Neal and replacing him with a winger on a shorter term deal is much more desirable (Tatar, Schwartz, Gusev, Iafallo - there are many complementary options for 2 LW that I think will be better bang for our buck...not to mention potentially picking up a guy on a 1 year audition deal for really cheap right now and resigning him (Kahun, Granlund, Haula etc.)

Cue the "Kreider will score 60 with McDavid" responses.

The Pens would rather trade Letang than Dumolin.

Yup. Term is what needs to be avoided don’t replace a questionable contract with one with more term and dollars. Right now maybe he’s better but I actually like Neal and don’t think he’s any sort of problem he’s made out to be. How much does a very consistent 20-25 goal scoring veteran player cost? To me he’s right in that ballpark of getting paid for what he provides call it questionable just because I think it’s fair to debate it. He only got moved out of the top six when he broke his foot. Who’s to actually say he’s a 4th liner perhaps the coaching staff has a top six spot in mind for him again when he’s back to full health. Mcdavid doesn’t need speedsters maroon wasn’t he needs smart players that know where to go and can fire the puck. I still think that can be Neal on mcdavids left side and give him someone that can skate and make plays and be responsible on the right side cue JP fits that role perfectly in my opinion. I found him to have great vision able to skate like the wind and I don’t think gets credit for how responsible he was. Lucic was the issue causing defensive problems in the past
