The concept of cap dump seems to be something you can't comprehend.

or, maybe, just maybe a "cap dump" that can still pot 25 goals doesnt get you Konecny (who is more valuable than Gaudreau) a 1st and a prospect with a ton of promise if you decide to throw in a 4th liner too

Not enough incentive for the Kings to take on 7 mm in cap and lose picks and young players.

And on that note discussing about this trade with you became utterly fruitless and pointless.

Konecny has one 60 point year under his belt. Out of last 6 seasons Gaudreau has one season where hasn't totaled that amount of points. This year, where he fell three points short. Not to mention only a year ago the guy totaled almost 100 points and was a TOP3 player of his own position. And there's only a 3,5 years of age difference which isn't that much, really.

I'm not disputing that Konecny had a better season than Gaudreau did. But one year doesn't make that much of a difference.

You're a complete fool if you think Konecny is worth more than Gaudreau is.

Hanifin himself is also a young player. And unlike the players mentioned here, he's a solid NHL D. Would easily go in first pair in LA.

Konecny is singificantly younger, entering is prime (when Gaudreau is just about to exit his), cheaper, signed significantly longer AND he's better defensively. Also he has all those intangibles everyone loves to cream their pants over. So yeah, he's more valuable.

Don't see the Kings adding much for salary since they won't be competing for a playoff spot this year. Also, they could lose him or another D they want to protect in the expansion draft next year. Revisit in a year maybe.

As a Flyers fan, I'd probably value Gaudreau higher than Konecny. That said, the difference between them is not JVR (retained), Patrick, and a 1st. Personally, I wouldn't do Gaudreau for TK 1 for 1 just because of the contract situation. That $5.5 cap hit is a steal for what TK brings.

and that's the main reason why i think Konecny is more valuable. his contract plus the whole package makes him worth more in trade currency. Even if Gaudreau is technically the better scorer right now things like contracts and aging curves come in huge. These values are of course in a vacuum as a guy closer to peak would be worth more to a cup contender than it would be to a rebuilding team, but a cheaper guy would be worth more to a cap strapped team etc.
