the only thing funnier than the Bruins wiffing on Barzal 3x in a row was the oilers then immediately trading the pick used on him for Griffin Reinhart

it's still unreal to me that they had 3 mid round picks in one of the deepest drafts since 2003

The previous 3 picks were rantanen, crouse, and gurianov, the next 3 picks after their 3 was barzal, connor, and chabot

the amount of talent they could've had would've been unreal

Barzal was the only miss.
And cancel all transactions (trades, signings, waivers claims) in the entire league since that day

i mean, a 40-50 point defenceman (on a garbage team like ottawa) and a 40 goal scorer are also pretty big misses

even if you didn't keep those guys, you could've traded them and gotten value

This is not realistic. It's not.

Senyshyn was really the only one that was way off the charts. A miss no doubt.

Explain to me the locker room chemistry as you pay Barzal, Chabot and Connor more than Bergeron, Pastrnak and McAoy?

If you sign the guys they didn't draft to enormous contracts, the guys you did draft are going to want to get paid and you run out of money real quick.

What does that make Connor and Chabot then?

Zboril and Debrusk went where they were supposed to. I also think it's too early to write them Zboril and Senyshyn off. We will know this year.

Guys who went where they were supposed to. just like Zboril and Debrusk (a little early, but nothing shocking).

This is all hypothetical obviously... but even in their elc years they were great players. Just imagine what bruins team would be like with barzal, Connor, and chabot on elc for even just 1 season

You know, not a Bruins fan by any means, but would have loved to see this team iced. It’s wild that they could even comfortably re-sign all of them long-term because of how cheap the top line is.

No, not really. In retrospect I guess, but that can be said of every team. Literally every team whiffed on Aho.

That is not how it works though. You are completely ignoring development.

Chabot isn't on the ice in Boston the same time he is in Ott. He isn't. I also think the Bruins are not going to roll with (chabot, McAvoy, Carlo, Pastrnak, Barzal, connor) all under 21 for 2-3 years.

A) they won't produce like they did.
B) I don't care how good they are. Rosters that are 1/3rd teenager are not going to be very good.
C) they have been to two Cups since that draft.
D) The team here is much worse. Chris wagner is not a 3rd line wing. Kuraly is not a 3rd line center. This is a very top heavy team with no depth and an impending financial crisis.
E) you have eliminated their two best post season players. This team is essentially toronto - 1st round bounce .

Also - anyone else happen to notice Bazal had his 2nd straight 60pts season when Tavares wasn't there to take the matchups?

He's good. He isn't McDavid, Eichel, Draisaitl or McKinnon.

he's saying he was the only one projected within those three picks. Zboril and debrusk weren't reaches senyshen was. So exchange barzal for senyshen and that is actually what should have happened. The other two are just a wash. Besides, zboril and Chabot played together that year and Zboril was the better player.

They were there. Projected in the top10-20 ranks or whatever.
ARI took Strome. Barzal/Chabot/Connor all better
CAR took Hanifin. Barzal/Chabot/Connor all better
NJD took Zacha. Barzal/Chabot/Connor all better
FLA took Crouse. Barzal/Chabot/Connor all better
DAL took Gurianov. Barzal/Chabot/Connor all better

Yes, all those 5 picks are better than Zboril and Senyshyn but selecting Zboril and DeBrusk weren't mistakes. It was Zboril or Chabot. They played together in Saint John that year, Bruins wanted Zboril/felt like he was the better pick and it didn't work out. Senyshyn was off the board.

the difference is that pretty much everyone everywhere who wasnt Pierre McGuire or a Bruins fan was laughing at how they missed on 2 of the picks minimum.
Almost no one thought Aho was a huge miss until years later

Where’s the 40 goal scorer?

Kyle Connor? He was a 38 goal guy in this 70 game season. 35 goal guy last year

I guess to be more accurate he's a 30+ goal scorer, not necessarily 40

i also agree, every team makes colossal draft screw ups. The leafs gave anaheim their entire core for like half a decade (rakell, gibson, and manson in the 6th round)
