Description
Trades explained:
1) Minnesota: I feel like this would be a fair trade. Minnesota takes on half of Parise's contract while absorbing all of Leddy's since the term is much less than that of Parise.

2) Ottawa: I'm sure that whoever takes on Boychuk would have to get a 2nd or 3rd round pick with him to take his contract. If we include Bailey, it would eliminate the extra pick being included and we could take a chance at recouping at least the likes of a 4th round pick. If it has to be a worse pick, so be it. I even pushed it off til 2022, where Ottawa should be in a better situation.

3) Tampa: Taking a shot here but right now the Lightning are in cap trouble having slots to fill and still having to sign Cirelli as well. Maybe we can take advantage here. As far as the picks, two 2nd round picks should do it, combining that with a roster player in Aho of minimal salary.

The team is incredibly balanced in styles of play, great mix of lefties/righties and still a considerable amount of space left on the cap to ensure we can sign our FAs at the end of the season.

Signings:
Kovalchuk: Powerplay help, plain and simple. The guy can still shoot, especially in open space. Low risk, high reward.

Martin: More appropriate salary and good term for both sides.

Greene: Nice and simple, low salary for veteran help for the season.

Sergachev/Barzal: Short term (3 years each) for nice bridge deals.

I think that value on the Tampa trade is eschewed because of the offer sheet rumor, bet they could get a 1 from somebody somewhere or at least a better prospect. Sergachev is awesome.

Otherwise, I like the Parise trade but I have doubts about how easy it is to trade that contract because of all the money stuff if he retires. Pretty sure thats what nixed the deal at the deadline, anyway, even though we found it was a bigger package.

The Ottawa trade I don't like. Id rather lose a pick or a prospect than Bailey.

If Minnesota agrees to that, sure. It’s definitely creative, but I don’t know if they increase their cap hit like that just to offload half of a bad contract. But half-Parise wouldn’t be THAT risky in my book.

Only reason the Isles should trade Bailey is if they have no choice between Barzal, Pulock and possibly Sergachev. Trade a 1st rounder to dump Boychuk if you have to, it’s not like Thompson will properly develop whoever we draft.

I’d bet Tampa tries their damndest to keep Sergachev, but if they move him, I bet they’d want at least 1 1st for him. So more like Aho, a 1st and a 2nd, which personally, I’d still do. And I bet Sergachev gets at least another million or two in aav.

All of that said, this would be a good team. Undo the Bailey trade and this team is a legit cup contender.

Guys, this might be the first time posting on the site and being told I wasn't a complete moron, or something along those lines. Haha. I feel like Sergachev is a reach but it's out there. Scary that I'm sure there are teams hawking us the same way over Barzal right now. A UFA idea for that spot I had was Vatanen, but I couldn't get a feel for what his value would be.

As for Bailey, I know I'm in the minority here but I feel like he's a perfect person to move to open up a roster spot that needs to open. He'll get a good amount of money off the cap, bring in a decent return and allows Wahlstrom to slot right into that 3rd line RW. Even if it's not this trade above, I still think they may have to explore him as a possibility of movement. As it is now, he's slid down to the 3rd line. I don't know, just a thought.
