Stamkos takes one for the team

Created by: BulinWall
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 29, 2020
Published: Oct. 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I believe at some point Stamkos is going to "aggrevate" something in his rehab from core surgery (which is what happened during the return to play this past season) and he'll be put on LTIR in training camp. Then the RFAs get signed to bridge deals. If it's a shortened season he could sit out till the playoffs. Next offseason there's the expansion draft and Johnson's NTC becomes a modified one so it might be easier to move him then. TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM STAMMER

It's a hilarious concept that TB managed to win the SC with Stammer being injured, and now they'd rather have Stammer to stay injured so they can keep their core together... Like he should just stay off ice for an entire year.

I get your plan but they still need Stammers cap space on their books for day 1....those RFA's would not be able to sign until that paper transaction goes through.

As for this team, why would Cirelli, Serg and Cernak get low balled and accept?

If they’re “buying in” these aren’t brutal : Cirelli isn’t lowballed massively as I think 5-6 is good for him, sergachev kinda but once again it’s debatable what his price point should be (I think he shouldn’t be paid more than hedman but once again that’s not how contracts work “I won’t pay you more the. Hedman cause he’s hedman” isn’t a great argument in negotiations). Cernak I think is real low, maybe a long term deal for a smaller aav could be better (like 3.5m x 6 years or something)

So you have Stamkos fake injury and 3 guys all take about 40% below their market for three years...

placing him on LTIR is over the top but him retiring, after the team saying he'd be ready next year, isn't?

They are also crushing any chance of him getting traded for anything of value.

Not a lot of teams going to give something up for a guy who hasn't been healthy in two years. I would also think, the more he plays the better his chances at getting another good contract.

I think you would open yourself up to a whole of lot RFA Offers.

It's fair seeing that every core player on that team took bridge deals similar to that. But I get that players want to get paid what they deserve and they'll probably sign Os' cause they'll get opportunities to

I didn't realize they said he'd be ready for next szn
for over the top I meant he "aggravates" his injury
