The HHoF just announced that there will be no Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2021. The 2020 class will be pushed back to 2021 and the next one will be in 2022.

This really hurts the players that have been eligible before because there are now only two spots available for them in 2022, rather than the 7 there would’ve been between 2021 & 2022. Although the good thing is that the only person that could be argued is a Hall of Fame calibre player that retired in 2019 is Roberto Luongo. Although fortunately for those players, there don’t seem to be too many players that are retiring this off-season that are Hall of Fame calibre so 2023 seems to be very open. Although depending on who retires, the 2024 class could have a lot of players, like Thornton, Chara, Jagr, Datsyuk, Marleau, etc.

So what the classes are looking like right now:

2020 (Inducted in 2021)
- Jarome Iginla
- Kim St-Pierre
- Kevin Lowe
- Marian Hossa
- Doug Wilson

2022
- Henrik Zetterberg
- Henrik Sedin
- Daniel Sedin
- Luongo/Alfredsson/Mogilny/etc.

2023
- Chara/Williams/etc.

2024
- Chara/Thornton/Marleau/Jagr/Datsyuk/etc.

Honestly the only thing this will do is exclude some hall of very good guys.

I mean, the the new eligibilities in 2022 is pretty bare. Guys like Nash and Kunitz were great players but not to the level of HHOF I believe.
Kotkaniemi15 and AndrewLadd liked this.

For sure. I think this is actually better in terms of who gets inducted, but some people could get upset about a smaller opportunity for people that have already been passed over, like Mogilny & Alfredsson.
