I never expected a three-year deal, but it's good for him and the Leafs. I'm confident that he'll be a decent bottom 6 player at some point of this contract.

Low risk, high reward. If he breaks out, it's a year or two for near league minimum. If not, he can just vibe in the minors.

Good contract we get an extra year for our future 3rd liner

Now let's hope he develops similar to coleman

Projections have him similar to coleman and that's perfect for us as we can make a physical 3rd line

Steal of a contract. A power forward and a playoff type player the Leafs need. We can potentially grow our own Josh Anderson/Blake Coleman

It's a weird contract, but when you can get a guy this cheap for this long, it's amazing.

Was the trade good for the Leafs? IMO it wasn't, but the signing alone is good IMO.

The player basically traded year 3 of this deal for guaranteed NHL money in that year. The Leafs have a waiver exempt player for now, who if he turns into a useful bottom 6 player could be on a bargain contract. If he isn't, all he cost was some extra cash in year 3 (since years one and two are two way deals).

Solid move, not earth shattering, but if you project a flat cap, adding potential for good value deals later that dont' hurt you today are never a bad thing.

To be honest I like it but don't love it as I think Anderson himself made a mistake.

The Leafs are so cap tight they'd have been better to give him the same deal but 700k one way for 3 years instead of 750 two way for 2 years and 1 way for 1 year

It would have earned Anderson likely more as guaranteed NHL salary and would literally save the Leafs that drop of cap (sometimes it's crazy to me when I say $50,000 is a drop).

All said and done it's good but that seems odd to me

The comparison was to Blake Coleman the tough two way forward drafted and started development in the same organization who is... Wait for it.... 5'11"

The 2 seasons of the AHL salary is really gonna suck for him.

This is the best RFA contract signing of Dubas' career. Too bad it's mixed up as first half AHL contract and second half NHL ready player talent.

I see him in the AHL for 2020-2021, I see him with the leafs 2021-2022, so really only 1 season

two way forwards aren't power forwards.
And there are no 5'11 power forwards.

I'll take the $750,000 x 3 year J.Anderson with 6 points last year over the $5,500,000 x 7 year J.Anderson with 4 points last year.

Pretty easy choice. tears of joy

Depends if Dubas continues his must win now and sign aging past their prime bottom 6 vets for league minimum.

I think most would call Coleman a power forward but of not, it's just semantics he's a tough winger which was the point.

I'm gonna say Joey plays at least 50% of the Leafs games next season, and 90% the following season. He reminds me of Blake Coleman before his breakout season, except Anderson is like 5 years younger. I followed his play a lot the last couple seasons w/ the Devils and B-Devils. He's on track to becoming a solid career bottom six Forward in the NHL. Dubas made an excellent trade.
