Barzal was never really "property" of the oilers. The pick used for Barzal (if I'm tracking right) was originally the Penguins 1st rounder that EDM acquired for Perron. Of course later EDM would use the pick to acquire Griffin Reinhart

Yes, just like the 2nd rounder Boston received from EDM signing PC as their GM turned into Jack Studnicka. At one point the pick belong to EDM....although in BOS case it was actually EDM own pick and not from another team.
