If this was going to happen it would have already happened before he actually cleared waivers. No one is taking on Johnson and Raddysh and a 7th while giving up a 5th are not "assets", they're "scraps".

    I don't think it's legal anyway.
I think it's like 10 games or 30 days that a player would have to be back on the main club. Considering the season didn't start yet, I'm not sure they can.

I mean it's not illegal if there is no evident coordination of the two deals being connected. However, both teams could "agree" to do this and do the first trade, then Minnesota could just not file a waiver claim on Johnson. Since there was no coordination, Tampa would have zero recourse, because if they admitted to it, they would get hit with cap circumvention penalties.

The NHL central registry certifies every trade, so no. If this happened anywhere near around the same time, or the NHL had any hint of these being planned in tandem, the trade would be blocked and likely both teams fined in cash and draft picks I would reckon.

Would be really funny to see attempted though!

The Orpik situation a couple of years ago is probably the slimiest thing that has been done somewhat like this. However, it required a buyout by Colorado after the trade, and thena resigning, not just player movement at their current existing contracts through trades and waivers. Here's the Orpik story: https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nhl-clears-capitals-trading-signing-brooks-orpik-buyout/

I remember around 13 years ago Brian Burke and Doug McLean made a trade. Anaheim sent Sergei Fedorov to Columbus and the Ducks got Francis Beauchemin in return. Todd Marchant was supposed to be part of the trade as well but he wouldn't waive his NTC to go to Anaheim. So McLean placed him on waivers and Burke claimed him. That's one way of circumventing.

Just an example, not trying for fair value

I recall Marchant being a big piece of their cup run in 06. Great defensive forward for the Ducks

I actually think Minnesota is one of the teams that TJ would waive for.

    1) originally, he was going to go to Minnesota. He got injured though the year he was going to sign. When he went back to juniors he exploded and decided to sign with Tampa instead.

    2) he is really good friends with Spurgeon. He was going to sign with Minnesota in point 1 because he wanted to play with him

    3) he won the cup so I think he is willing to go to a team that is less of a contender right now.

However, saying all that I don’t want TJ.
