No they would not, because Hyman would not sign with them.....

Only Hyman would know for sure. My point is just that if the Leafs leave him exposed and Seattle wants to take him, they are allowed to try and come to terms on a contract beforehand so their selection is not wasted.

They have 3 days. Unless dubas pulls him aside to tell him he won’t re sign him there is a 0% chance he signs with Seattle. Would be rather short sighted of them to try and go after a player they could try for in ufa when leafs would have a few good players exposed that are under contract.

I don't think he would sign with Seattle and I truly believe he wants to remain a Leaf, even if that means taking less money than he could make elsewhere, but let's not pretend we know for a fact he wouldn't accept a generous offer from Seattle, should they present him with one.

I just go by what he says. Most times I don’t take statements like these at face value but with Hyman you know he really means it.

First and foremost, I would love to stay in Toronto, It’s where I grew up. I want to be a Leaf for a long time. In a way, with everything that’s happening now, I’m lucky that I have another year on my contract because everything will probably be sorted out by then with regards to the cap and whatnot and all those questions that nobody really has answers for right now. I would love to be a long-term Leaf and re-sign here. I want to be here and ultimately win a Stanley Cup.”

I think and hope he does mean what he says, but just because he says he would love to stay in Toronto, doesn't mean he wouldn't entertain the idea of playing elsewhere for more money.

I'm not too worried about losing Hyman to Seattle (or to anyone really, because I think he means what he says), but if they leave him exposed, even as a pending UFA, there is a legitimate, albeit slight, chance that Hyman becomes a Kraken.

Take out dermott and add Hyman

I hope they do that but then make a side deal for Seattle to pick someone other than Dermott
