Canucks are already over the cap so you'd have to take similar money back.

I'm honestly surprised they didn't just buy Baertschi out. He has a very buyout friendly contract.

The wouldn't be able.

There is a second buyout window that opens for 24 hours two days after their last arbitration settlement. But that buyout window is only available for players making above $4M in AAV, so Baertschi isn't eligible.

That would be nice, but we have to convince Ferland to do that. If we can we probably look to sign a top 6 fwd over trading for a defender.

It isn't buyout friendly at all. Actually none of the Canucks potential buyouts really made any sense. They gave very minimal relief for more pain going fwd. They did the right thing to just stand pat.

Baertschi is due $3.367M this year's and his buyout cap hit would be $1.767M this year and $800k next year. That's a pretty buyout friendly deal to me.

If you bury him you save around 1.1 if you buy him out you save around 1.5. So is it worth the 400k savings to gave another 800k on the books next season when they'll need it a lot more than now.
