Barzal > Marner, so, yeah, he's $8M for 3 years, 10.5 for 6-8 years.

I think his love for Leddy has more to do with his work ethic on and off the ice, even though he’s not that good. Trotz is a players coach- he probably just has a good relationship with him and let that dictate keeping him over his performance on the ice

Most likely, except he only has these relationships with people over the age of 28

Lol right - If you’re 28+ it doesn’t matter if you suck defensively as long as you’re trying your best.

Not sure if you’re familiar the metric WAR (wins above replacement) . It takes offensive and defensive metrics in order to capture a players “total value” .

Tom kuhnackl was 3rd worst player in the league . He was worth -2.1 wins. To put that in perspective boychuk was worth -0.9 wins and he’s a huge liability as well.

Nelson and beauvillier led forwards with 2.5 WAR each , pulock led the defense.

yeah he was a bottom 5 defensive forward in the league and he was ranked as the worst pker in the NHL - which is funny because fans always state that we need him in the lineup because he can pk .

I get trotz is a great coach in terms of His head for the game and Xs and Os , but he chooses to put multiple liabilities in the lineup at the same time. How can you not question that? Some fans will say that he must know something that fans don’t, but i don’t buy that. If kuhnackl and boychuk are finishing close to last in every metric for 2-3 seasons in a row, that’s more of an indicator of their impact than what trotz thinks

Marner is arguably a top 5 RW in this league, and Barzal isn't close to that level. Marner is easily better than Barzal. Notice how one had a 95 pt pace, and the other had around a 70-75 pt pace.

Marner plays with Matthews and Tavares.

Barzal plays with Lee.

Keefe Vs Trotz systems are very different too.

equating points to quality of a player is like relying on +/- to win an argument.
