Weird move

Created by: DReedy14
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 31, 2020
Published: Oct. 31, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sharks take advantage of a little cap space and sign Hoffman to the one-year deal he's probably going to get, and they can sign him for a little more than other teams are likely willing to pay at this point. Essentially, it's a sign and trade where everybody wins:
-Hoffman gets the $5 mil or so that he wants and ends up at a contender
-Sharks pay (retain) $2.5 mil to get a first-round pick
-A contender such as Boston, St. Louis, or Washington adds a 30-goal scorer for the season at under $3 mil against the cap and only for the trade price of a high-end trade deadline rental (but they get him for the full season).

Probably won't happen and there may be rules against this, but what do y'all think?

I know, it wouldn't work for retaining salary. Some sort of glitch, I'm not sure why it didn't work tonight (and it wasn't because I was going over 50%, it wouldn't work for even $1 mil).

Karlsson probably requests a trade the second he hears the team is interested in Hoffman.

As I wrote in the description, it would be a sign and trade deal (frequently happens in the NBA and occasionally in the NFL). To clarify, Hoffman would be part of the trade process and would agree to terms with whatever contending team he was deciding to sign with, making the Sharks the middle man. It would be organized between the teams, unlike the last time Hoffman was a Shark.
