Description
it gives Vegas an extra 3 mil in cap space. buffalo retains on Montour because can only retain half of a players salary and Montour makes more.

side note; if they send hutton down they save about 1m$ in his cap hit, minus what ever the new guy cost. so like max 300k in savings if he isnt doing it for yea as a back up.

Why on earth would Buffalo do that?!?!

Fleury is turning 36 & has been clearly declining for a couple years now
Even if Vegas held half his salary,
I’d STILL make them give us a 1st or some kind of sweetener

I am not a Vegas or Buffalo fan so I have no horse in the race but I think this could make sense for Buffalo.
Even if Fleury has been declining, they still are getting a clear upgrade in a position of weakness. On top of that, they are getting a young stud in Hague who hopefully will develop into their second pair LHD behind Dahlin.
Having said all that, Yes the trade looks fair in a vacuum but Vegas should definitely add a high (1st or 2nd) pick into the package as its the price of gaining all that cap space.

Sabres decline. They aren’t going to put Okposo in the AHL he’s still an effective player. Ullmark was also better than Fleury this year too.

What about the Sabres cap space. Not a full roster, near the cap limit, and if bonuses have to be paid, it gets into 21/22 81.5m cap. Fact is the Sabres like so many teams can't afford to take on cap.

top 6 is locked in for players so its only the bottom 6 spots to grab.
4 players are fighting for 3 spots center and 2RWs
thomposon is almost a lock to be kept with the new contract and Lazar Is faceoff expert and heave defence guy
so question is do you want stall to mentor couzens for a year or keep okpo because he can still be effective.
