Brutal Nuge trade and Hoffman has clearly stated he is not signing that low. You are 2 million short on him.
You also have to many players and Barrie as a first pair is a disaster, 3rd pair yes.

Picking up Hoffman who is not a center and getting that same production from Nuge is not a good idea, Nuge offers center if someone gets hurt.PK time as well

As for the trade, he was about a ppg last season. You are telling me thats only worth a 1st? Not saying the value was right on the AA trade, but you could easily make the case that 12 games of AA garnered a bigger return than a full season of Nuge in this case, unless that pick manages to be a top 5 pick. Can't imagine McDavid would be too pleased with trading away the 3rd best player on their team (and only other player who helped in the offence-side all season long), for a pick that won't be with the team until 2-4 seasons down the road.

RNH isn't going anywhere, as others have posted, but if he did, the McDavid/Draisaitl Oilers aren't taking just a draft pick, they would want an equal value roster player(s).

If anyone is worried that RNH is only signed for 1 more year, that wouldn't be Edmonton's problem, they'll extend him. Edmonton wouldn't give a discount because an inquiring team was worried about resigning a player the Oilers aren't actively shopping. I understand this is an Oiler fans proposal, I'm just mentioning that for anyone who covets RNH, and we all do.

Hopkins isn't going anywhere,but Hoffman can say he's not signing for x amount but market may dictate he's getting less than he wants. The longer he waits the more likely he gets a one year deal at 4-5 million or sits on his ass

This is interesting but Anaheim, even with Nuge, isnt out of the lottery. Is Nuge worth a 1st, easily, would Anaheim give up a potential top 5 pick for him? No.

Good comment, made me think. I looked up RNH draft year, 2011, so a 2021 draft pick is 10 years difference. I’m shocked he’s been around that long. I’d have to think on my personal threshold value for RNH vs a 1st, but definitely not top 5, in 2021 anyway.
