Mantha’s contract expiring at the age of 30 just when Detroit is trying to start competing is the ultimate cherry on top lol

Solid contract, but surprised they didn't go for longer term.

I'm not, it's a good move for DET. He plays a heavy game, those guys are oft injured. Especially as they age.

The only bad thing about this is that he’s gonna be in for a payday in 4 years as long as he stays somewhat healthy. I guess playing it safe in case his injuries continue is the right call though.

Good deal for the Wings. A little undervalue.

One thing to think about, which has been DET's MO in the past (not recently, but during the glory years) is the captain is the highest-paid player, or blesses someone making more than him Larkin is still the highest paid player on the team, and he's about to be captain.

Mantha somehow has the same AAV as Marc Staal

It keeps him motivated to really try and cash in at 30 instead of pack it in and collect a paycheck till 33. I couldn't be happier with the term and the AAV

Yeah, I think you're right, that's the reason I assume they went shorter term.

Great deal for both the team and the player. Yzerman definitely didn't mess around on the cap hit.

We could see how bad the Pandemic hit the league when everyone thoughts he would go for 7-7,5M for 6y... and Bert for at least 4-5M...
Hoffman offer where the same and that's why he decide not to sign... no more money available!!! time for amazing deal/contract... and us in MTL we sign Gally for 6y x 6,5M outch!

Plan A: Take another bad cap hit for another pick/prospect ieConfusedteen for a 2nd

Plan B: take 2 bad contracts, steen/boychuck for a 2nd for steen and a first and prospect/2nd for boychuck

Plan C: wait until a team comes crying that the season is going to start and they need our help and fleece them.

Plan D: stand pat and trade all their ufas at the deadline which is so many more picks and prospects coming In

Lol, I didn't know there were people out there who existed who didn't like the Gallagher contract. Have you found others out there too, or are you the only one of your kind ?
