According to math, Mantha is worth roughly 4.9 Jack Johnsons. What a screwed up world we live in

Are you going to mention Mantha's made of glass or completely ignore that?

YEAH!!! Exactly my first thought. He's played 1 full season in the last 4 I believe.

Yeah I saw friedman tweet that and I actually was shook that he asked that much - i knew he was gonna try and make some team overpay for him but damn...that’s a laughable number that he wants to be paid more then Mika Z, Hertl, rakell to name 3. It’s not good to use other guys as argument to why you should be paid but I would say if he got 4.5 I wouldn’t be happy tbh if I was a NYR fan

Well at least he’s arguing for less than Ceci argued for 2 years ago.

A bit pricy but he had a good year.

I really don't think this is pricey at all. If you look at comparables he could have gotten 6-7 mill on a 6-7 year term.

Mantha has battled injuries but his 82 game pace in the last two seasons has been 58 and 72 points... And thats on a team that struggles to score.

The 4 year term works for both sides. I think its a great deal.

This will be pretty good if he plays like 2019 Mantha.

Little pricey but for a player who is going into his prime and going to score about 70-90 points it's a good deal and if Detroit continuos to suck (Hopefully they don't) he will have great value.

How is it a little pricey if he is about to score 70-90 points??? That doesn't make sense.

Mantha is a big bodied forward who can score goals. I have been a big fan of his since he joined the league and I honestly think this deal will have great value, immediately, this coming season.

Wow, Mantha had a solid year, and was the biggest reason Detroit won games this year, that’s much less than I thought

I agree. I don't watch the Red Wings much, but I just looked at the stats to make that decision.

i think it's too short. They won't be a contender within 4 years

My projected Strome contract was literally 5x3.6m. 5.7m for Strome would be a disgusting overpay even if he's in his prime for 8 years.

How are we calling this pricey? Mantha is a great player - solid play driver, super good finisher, his only real issue is playing on a poor team. I wouldn't mind paying 7m, especially considering this contract expires at the perfect time. Someone else will bite the bullet and sign him after this great deal for Detroit, but it couldn't be better for the Wings.

To be honest, I'm not really sure this will put an end to the trade talks. If it were 7-8 years it would. He's already 26 and DET probably won't be a contender before this contract is close to finished. I just don't see him as part of the long term foundation of this team.

At his age and cap hit, I believe a reasonable expectation would be around 25-30G and 60-65 points. If he exceeds those numbers he's providing incredible value.
